Tomsrtbt: how?

Having problems with the Gentoo Handbook? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

Well, a good place to start would be the tomsrtbt disk site and specifically the FAQ. (and even more specifically, question #5 on the FAQ entitled "DOS installation"...)

Sigh...you didn't even bother to read the FAQ. To quote part of it:
This is for installing tomsrtbt from a DOS/Windows system.

This method works. Really. I've used it to create a tomsrtbt disk from Win2K, WinNT and WinXP.

I've read the faq about 30 times. Thing is, winXP doesn't have a real dos mode, so no boot into linux.

Go to www.bootdisk.com
I downloaded the DOS version of win 98 to upgrade my BIOS.
You can boot to DOS this way.

can't you type "cmd" at the run prompt to get a dos prompt?
I know that that works in win2k.
Not sure if that was an issue or not though for XP making the tom's disk, but an idea.

I tried it. There is a command prompt, but theres not real dos. So you can't boot to "linux" to make the disk.
