mythtv 0.24

  • Quote

Post by koan » Sun Nov 21, 2010 2:24 am

Hello all,

Has anyone tried the mythtv 0.24 ebuild: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=345271

I wanted to know that if it was working ok, and if the 0.23.1 plugins, themes, and mythweb ebuilds were also working if renamed.

Thanks

Paul

Very tempted! If you give it a go let me know if it works OK ;-)

That ebuild works. I just noticed that I when I was cleaning up the ebuild to remove some patches and comments that only serve my needs, I cut out some file permission fixes. I'll have to post that.

The existing ebuilds for the plugins mostly worked, I had to make a few changes to allow for some new dependencies in mythmusic, IIRC. I think also had to tweak the mythtv.eclass. I'll check when I get home.

I installed and first thing I noticed is that the init.d script is missing? Is what what people have noticed?

Both backend (AMD64 - Dual Xeon) and frontend (AMD64 - Aopen Revo) upgraded to 0.2.4 and seem to be working fine! I could not get AACSKEYS compiled which the BLURAY useflag needs. So I'll have to wait for Bluray playing goodness.

Good show!

Did you copy the files directory from the existing package into your overlay? It should be using mythbackend-0.18.2.rc as the init script.

Err, nope I did not! I just copied that file from a backup and used it. It works fine though.

Although I've been running Mythtv for ages now this is the first time I remember ever using ebuilds from outside Portage. Actually I've rarely used any ebuilds outside of Portage.

FWIW I:
  • 1 - Copied across the ebuild into /usr/portage/local/manual (and edited make.conf accordingly)
    2 - ran

    Code: Select all

    ebuild <ebuild> digest
    3 - unmasked it in /etc/portage/package.unmask/mythtv
    4 - ran

    Code: Select all

    emerge mythtv

How can proceed from this

Code: Select all

if you look through the bug, you'll see some refrence to eclasses

You'll need them to download correctly.

Bugs:
required

Code: Select all

345271 media-tv/mythtv-0.24
347750 mythtv.eclass
346927 mythtv-plugins.eclass 0.24
optional

Code: Select all

346913 media-plugins/mythnetvision-0.24
346915 media-plugins/mythvideo-0.24
346923 media-plugins/mythgallery-0.24
346999 media-plugins/mythweather-0.24
347001 media-plugins/mytharchive-0.24
347129 media-plugins/mythgame-0.24
348891 x11-themes/mythtv-themes-0.24
348895 media-plugins/mythbrowser-0.24
I'll throw up a more current version of the ebuilds using today's commit and add the remaining plugins tomorrow after I've actually built them on my machines. I've kept my own overlay bumped and systems updated, but since the builds themselves haven't changed, I've left the bugs alone.

There are two alternatives to what can be found on bugzilla:
The official packaging found at Github This gets bumped every few days.
Live ebuilds. I tried these out just before 0.23 hit RC stage a while ago.

The ebuilds in bugzilla require only two things to be changed for the bumping in local overlays:
* change date
* update MYTHTV_COMMIT inside each ebuild.

The "official" packaging doesn't have an overlay to add to portage, but gets bumped regularly by a Myth dev. He also has a 0.25_pre version loaded.

Marc's overlay works great as well.

Any ideas why the official packaging git doesn't include mythtv-themes?

Cheers,

I haven't spoken with him, but I think I know why. 0.24 includes some support for downloadable themes. I believe this includes what's found in the tree and will eventually include user contributed themes. The need for a mthtv-themes ebuild is coming to an end.

You may have replied to my bugzilla question a couple of weeks ago. 0.24 does seem to begin support for downloadable themes yet all of the dists are shipping mythtv-themes-0.24, and it is present in the normal mythtv git.

In Packaging, it is there in rpm.

Just not the Gentoo Packaging. Because it wasn't there I didn't use the official packaging and used the bugzilla ebuilds, which has a mythtv-themes ebuild. When I tried the theme downloader in other dists before upgrading gentoo, the backend support didn't seem to be there, but maybe I missed something.

I can't honestly say that I've given the theme downloader much thought. Since Arclight came out, I haven't really played with another other themes. I saw the options and ran through it quick once, but that's it. As it gets more acceptance and (presumably) more work by the devs, the extra ebuild will become unnecessary. I can't think of any evidence to support this, but I'd imagine it should be up by 0.25.

I loved Arclight when I first tried it until I discovered that the watch recordings screen didn't show status icons such as Watched, Flagged, and Bookmarked...can't do without those. I had to switch back to Mythbuntu.

Guess no one knows, funny how they can get a new release of kde into the tree so fast but mythtv is still out there blowing in the wind

It's also quite possible that Cardoe has a lot on his plate or just doesn't frequent the forums. Have you tried shooting him an e-mail directly?

not yet no, that was next on my list, would have thought there might be a backup maintainer just in case, also i was considering that others may have already emailed him about it

edit: just fired an email to him, also checked to see if there had been any new comments and found this

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=345271#c48

looks promising :-)

I've mentioned the Myth team's official packages a few times now. Kormoc bumps the ebuilds regularly with the latest commits.

What level of logging are you running on the frontend?

Perhaps it is a time sync issue? 0.24 wants to make sure the backend and frontend are running the same time more than 0.23 did.

I just used ./mythfrontend -l mythlog which gives me

Code: Select all

2011-02-08 00:00:35.354 Unable to determine master backend time zone settings. If those settings differ from local settings, some functionality will fail.
which i noted in the logfile, how would i correct this issue? run ntp?

If you do "date" on both the front and back end, do the times and timezones look right? Here is mine:

Code: Select all

> date
Tue Feb 8 20:06:48 EST 2011
----
$ date
Tue Feb 8 20:06:43 EST 2011
Both EST. But note that that timezone is a setting within the frontend as well.
