ATI Radeon sucess stories

Do you have an ATI Radeon video card? Have you got it working with Linux?
Post your card model, glxgears fps, and games that you have been able to run. ATI has begun to include better support for linux, hopefully this thread should prove it!

After I disabled drm in my kernel, my Radeon was a breeze to set up.

glxgears: 1150fps (very good, considering my computer is largely an archaic pos :D)

Games: Enemy Territory, Unreal Tournament, Tropico, Counterstrike in Steam.
PC: Antec 350W PSU, AMD Athlon64 3000+, ASUS K8V Deluxe Mobo, 512MB PC3200@400MHz, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB, 80GB Maxtor HDD @ 7200RPM

9700 pro all in wonder.

glxgears - ~4000fps
fgl_glxgears - ~500fps

Took a little while to setup, but very happy with it now. NWN runs nicely at 1280x1024 with all settings maxed.

Haven't played much else (yet).

I only wish there were tv-in drivers available for it...

Gandalf: What are you system specs?

I've only been using Linux for a couple of months, but im considering upgrading to the 2.6 kernel. How big of a difference did it make for you?

I just need to gauge whether or not it is worth it.

Radeon 7200 with 64 MB
ck sources 2.4.22-r2
Hovering around 1100 FPS with glxgears. Doesn't have the power I would like it to though, since it plays Savage like crap. At least it isn't crashing or anything...

Radeon 9200SE 128MB, XP 1700+, dev 2.6.0-test9, DRI project drivers because I am a zealot. 800 fps (this is 24bpp, which makes things very slow.)

Plays Quake III pretty well. Some annoying graphics bugs, though.

Mobile Radeon 9200 + 2.4.22-ck + xfree-drm. 1600FPS in GLX gears, nice and stable.

Tried 2.6.0-test9, 2.6.0-test9-mm with ati-drivers 3.2.8, hard lockups every couple or hours or so.

I just need to gauge whether or not it is worth it.
I have 2 computers runnign the 2.6 kernel. The first is my laptop

Toshiba A20 (gentoo linux)

2.6 test 9 love 2
P4 2.66
512megs ram
32 mb trident video card (meh, that was my last consideration)

and the one that my radeon 9500pro is in

Athlon Tbird 1.4ghz
384 megs of ram
Audigy 2
128mb Radeon 9500pro

The 2.6 kernel is sweet. I have been using it since test 1, alsa sounds wonderful, it is smooth for desktop use, just an all around great kernel. I havn't had a slowdown or crash on any of my machines yet.

I can't comment on the 3d preformance of 2.6 vs 2.4 because I never took any benchmarks while I was on 2.4. I highly suggest using love sources if you are oging to go 2.6, they have rounded off some of the kernels rough edges (see the thread in other things gentoo for more information).

Can anyone comment on DRI project drivers vs. ATI drivers, preferably for r200? I want to know how much I'm punishing myself. :p

Has anyone had any experience with the radeon 9600 pro? I'm considering buying that card.
Also, has anyone gotten Battlefield 1942 to work with wine or winex with a radeon?

I've not been able to put DRI to work in Gentoo with a Radeon 9200 SE, what drivers are you using?

My System here:
Dual AMD 1600+ MP Cpu`s
Tyan Tiger MPX
512MB DDR ECC RAM
Hercules 3D Prophet 9200SE 128MB
Linux Kernel 2.6 (Vanilla)

DRI Support in Kernel is disabled.
I emerged ati-drivers and here are my final results:

glxgears: 9743 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1948.600 FPS (default 24bit 1024x768 )

celeron 2GHz
512MB RAM
AGP 4x

and this is what i get with the ati-drivers:

glxgears: ~2700fps
fgl_glxgears: ~140fps

i'm also running quake 2 and 3 with about 90fps (1152x864)

americas army and ut2003demo are working thogh they're awfully slow (about 25fps at 640x480
and all detail settings to lowest)

Specs:
Hercules 9800 Pro
XP 2700
A7N8X Deluxe
512MB Corsair PC3200LL
2.6.0-test9-love4
3.2.8 driver

glxgears: ~4750 fps
fgl_glxgears: ~550 fps

I've not had serious problems with any game I've tried - TuxRacer, crack-attack, Q3A, RTCW, UT, UT2K3, HL with Wine, Freespace 2, MoH, Serious Sam 1 + 2, and AvP.

Q3A runs nice and fast (between 90 - 250fps mostly, @1280x1024). The 2.9.13 driver was even faster. UT2K3 @ 1280x1024 with all details maxed, gets roughly 40-100fps.
