Can't mount USB disks

  • Quote

Post by Featherfoot » Tue Oct 19, 2010 11:43 pm

I am getting my system configured again after a disk crash. My problem is that I can't mount USB disks anymore. I originally thought it was just a WD MyBook Essential but it is also USB flash disks.

This is an amd64 system running kernel 2.6.34-gentoo-r11.

I'm sure I have missed one line of my incantation, but I don't know what it is...

Here's the error:

Code: Select all

org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.PermissionDeniedByPolicy:
org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable no <-- (action, result)
Here is the section of dmesg where it tries to mount the drive:

Code: Select all

Hi,

looks like the PolicyKit is denying the access to the media. You can have a look at the policykit manpages, but I think it's easier to set the correct permissions with a GUI like policykit-gnome. There you will have:

Code: Select all

org --> freedesktop --> hal --> storage --> Mount file systems from removable drives
Make your settings so the user can mount the removable drives and you should be able to mount the USB drive.
