[SOLVED] KDE -> Some Desktop effects not working..

Well for some reason some desktop effects don't work.
- Cover Switch
- Desktop Cube
- Desktop Cube Animation
- Explosion
- Flip Switch
- Invert
- Magic Lamp
- Sharpen
- Snow
- Wobbly Windows...

Features such as "translucency" and "Shadows" work

As compositing type I set "XRender"

Does anybody have an idea why its not working??

THX

I believe some effects don't work using XRender. They require OpenGL.

OpenGL doesn't work at all!
it gives the followowing message:
Failed to activate desktop effects using the given configuration options. Settings will be reverted to their previous values.

Check your X configuration. You may also consider changing advanced options, especially changing the compositing type.
Any ideas where to look in the xorg config??

Check ~/.xsession-errors when switching to OpenGL

No idea, I ignored that error entirely when my laptop said that, because I'm not using an xorg.conf. Despite what it says, the problem is frequently a driver-related one. What kind of graphics card are you using? What versions of the drivers? Desktop is perfect with ~amd64 nvidia-drivers, laptop is a little unstable with ~amd64 xf86-video-intel and 2.6.34 zen kernel.

I'm using an Nvidia Quadro NVS 160 M card with the latest NVIDIA Driver Version 195.36.24 on a 32bit System
OpenGL is enabled for the nvidia Card via "eselect opengl"
Oh yeah and: "glxinfo | grep rendering" gives:
-> direct rendering: Yes

OpenGL is enabled for the nvidia Card via "eselect opengl"
And you actually have selected nvidia there and not xorg-x11?
Also make sure to have installed the virtual opengl package from Portage (should be automatically installed when opengl USE flag is set globally). The other thing you could try is playing around with the settings in your nvidia-settings helper program (which if run as root configures your xorg.conf).

Ok guys found the solution somewhere else...
It seems to be some kind of bug in KDE

Here it is:
Open the file /home/<YOUR HOME FOLDER>/.kde4/share/config/kwinrc and set DisableChecks=true
You can enable it there as well righ away Enabled=true

When you enabled it in the file, restart X-Server, otherwise go to system settings and enable the effects.
