[SOLVED] gnome mount fails

Mounting my NTFS file system in gnome throws me this error:

Unable to mount location
Authentication is required

When I right-click and choose "Open as Administrator" it gives me the following error:

Unable to determine the program to run.
The item you selected cannot be open with administrator powers because the correct application cannot be determined.

I can successfully mount when using ntfs-3g.

It seems like some authentication program should throw me a screen asking for password, but gnome doesn't know the right one...
How should I fix the problem?

What desktop environment are you using (Gnome, KDE), or window manager?

I've only had experience with this in GNome from Ubuntu.
So if you are using GNome then you would probably want gksu or gksudo. I think you can just do 'emerge -av gksu'
I'm not entirely sure of the difference between the two.. (or if there even is one)
But I think gksu would be a safer bet.

KDE (or others) might have different preferred programs to handle this, I'm not sure. So tell us what you are running if you're not using GNome.

I reinstalled gksu and it helped.

However, one thing was weird, I rebooted and after that nothing worked. It started working only a few reboots later. weird...
