XFCE4 & USE Flags

  • Quote

Post by bdemore » Fri Nov 07, 2003 12:09 am

I've settled on using XFCE4 on my newly installed system. My question, before emerging XFree is: Are there specific USE variables one should use such as Gnome & GTK2 with Gnome and QT & KDE with KDE? Conversely should you use -Gnome & -GTK2 or -QT & -KDE. Well, you get the picture- I'm confused.

I use XFCE4, and I have -gnome -kde -qt4 -arts set. I dont think I use gtk at all either, as I think its only for gtk2 support, which I dont use.

Some apps seem to *need* qt4, which they'll install anyway AFAIK even if you have -qt4 set, so I wouldnt worry about it.

XFree doesnt have any of those as USE flags anyway.

You can see what USE flags apps do have by emerging gentoolkit, and doing etcat -u <package>. Its a great little tool.

Example: etcat -u xfree

:)

The only important one I have for XFce4 is xinerama, for my dual monitor setup. Apart from that, I don't think XFce4 has any.

also make use of

emerge -pv xfce4

which will show the current USE variables, and all the possibles.
