emerge --config postgis fails for postgresql-8.4.1

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

emerge --config postgis (for postgis-1.4.0) fails with postgres 8.4.1:

Code: Select all

 * Using the user postgres and the template_gis template database.
/usr/lib64/postgresql-8.4/bin/createdb: invalid option -- 'q'
Try "createdb --help" for more information.
 *
 * ERROR: dev-db/postgis-1.4.0 failed.
 * Call stack:

 * The specific snippet of code:
 *               createdb -q -O ${myuser} -U ${myuser} ${mydb} || die "Unable to create the ${mydb} ${mytype} as ${myuser}";
 *  The die message:
 * Unable to create the template_gis template database as postgres
 *
 * If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.
 * A complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/dev-db/postgis-1.4.0/temp/build.log'.

It also throws a warning:

Code: Select all

/var/tmp/portage/dev-db/postgis-1.4.0/temp/environment: line 2374: /etc/conf.d/postgresql: No such file or directory
which is actually named /etc/conf.d/postgresql-8.[n] by default.

emerge --config failed because in fact, the files had been installed in the wrong places before. I've hacked around the postgis ebuild to make it work with 8.4, though it needs polishing to enter anywhere near portage:

https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=296172

Also, the ebuild couldn't have worked even before 8.4, since the config script had missed filename changes (lwpostgis.sql -> postgis.sql, lwpostgis_upgrade.sql -> postgis_upgrade.sql).

I'm having the same problem, and saw the patch for the ebuild....

I'm a bit of an ebuild-n00b, how do I apply it?
