Gnome Preferences

I installed all the necessary packages but under System there is no Preference tab. What did I do wrong?

try:
right click in panel, add to panel, select main menu.
there should be a systems, preferences there.

edit: did you install gnome or gnome-light?

no, it didn't work. I have only System/Administration.

I have installed gnome-light.

I have it and it works but it just doesn't appear in System.

try this if you don't have this symlink:

ln -s /etc/xdg/menus/gnome-applications.menu /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu
