mplayer & fontconfig(?) problem

  • Quote

Post by Ashiren » Sat Oct 10, 2009 6:10 pm

Hello

I can't run mplayer. I don't know why, guess it's happening after I used emerge with -N (--newuse) options. All what I get is:

Code: Select all

ashiren@wizard ~/.files-lin/download $ mplayer
Opcja fontconfig nie może być użyta w pliku konfiguracyjnym. # [option fontconfig cannnot be used in configuration file]
Error parsing option fontconfig=1 at line 132
Warning unknown option subfont-osd-scale at line 133
Warning unknown option subfont-text-scale at line 134
I tried to comment those lines and mplayer can play movies, but no subtitles and smplayer uses options (like -ssa or -nossa) which crashes mplayer. I tried to recompile fontconfig (and get newer version), corefonts (alhtough it isnt probably related) and mplayer, nothing helps. Downgrade of mplayer doesn't work neither. My mplayer compilation:

Code: Select all

ashiren@wizard ~/.files-lin/download $ eix -e mplayer
[I] media-video/mplayer

I searched forums and google but there was only one guy who had the problem but he's 'solution' didn't help me. I'm desperated.

I'm looking forward for any help or answer.

Do you have a subfont.ttf in your .mplayer directory? That *might* help.

It didn't help. Looks like it reads the /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf first and no matter what it gives the error.

Perhaps you also have a .mplayer/mplayer.conf ?

No. I got only ~/.mplayer/config, which has only aspect=16:10 and doesn't affect to problem. I don't know what I screwed in my system, I think I'll reinstall it and for future "no experiments" :P Anyway thanks for the reply.

I have the same problem. Looks like the config file in portage is bad (or the code that reads the config file is bad. One or the other)

Code: Select all

~ $ mplayer ./SummonerGeeks.avi
The fontconfig option can't be used in a config file.
Error parsing option fontconfig=1 at line 132
Warning unknown option subfont-osd-scale at line 133
Warning unknown option subfont-text-scale at line 134
snipper of config file:

Code: Select all

~ $ cat -n /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf | tail -10
   126	# DVDNAV Settings #
   127	###################
   128	#vc=ffmpeg12,
   129
130	# You can also include other configuration files.
   131	#include = /path/to/the/file/you/want/to/include
   132	fontconfig=1
   133	subfont-osd-scale=4
   134	subfont-text-scale=3
   135	unrarexec=/usr/bin/unrar
I'm running the following:

Code: Select all

media-video/mplayer-1.0_rc2_p20090731
I'm surprised. Why doesn't *everyone* have this problem???
I need a better signature...

Btw, after commenting out those lines (132,133, and 134), mplayer is fine. I just wonder why they are there...

Code: Select all

~ # cat -n /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf | tail -10

the USE flag nut caused this issue. You are able to fix this issue with a newer mplayer or without nut.

This is really starting to get on my nerves.

I don't think mplayer nowadays compiles with Truetype support in regardless if the flag is set or not. My warnings are:

Code: Select all

Warning unknown option subfont-autoscale at line 35
MPlayer 29040-4.3.4 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team
/usr/share/fonts/umeplus-fonts/umeplus-p-gothic.ttf doesn't look like a bitmap font description, ignoring.
Cannot load bitmap font: /usr/share/fonts/umeplus-fonts/umeplus-p-gothic.ttf
I'm thinking of trying to unmask a newer version of mplayer, but it looks like I will have to unmask various version of codecs to go along with it. :-/

It's a known bug that has been fixed. Update to 1.0_rc4_p20091026-r1 already!

I checked it out, and 1.0_rc4_p20091026-r1 only requires unmasking 2 packages. If you were like me and unmasking mplayer-1.0_rc4_p20091026-r1 initially scared you off because it looked like it may pull in a bunch of dependencies, it is actually just x264 alone so no worries. :D

# autounmask =media-video/mplayer-1.0_rc4_p20091026-r1 -a
* Added '=media-video/mplayer-1.0_rc4_p20091026-r1 ~x86' to /etc/portage/package.keywords
* Added '=media-libs/x264-0.0.20091021 ~x86' to /etc/portage/package.keywords

Nope. Hrm.

Code: Select all

!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

media-libs/x264:0

('installed', '/', 'media-libs/x264-0.0.20081006', 'nomerge') pulled in by
    <media-libs/x264-0.0.20090923 required by ('installed', '/', 'media-video/ffmpeg-0.5-r1', 'nomerge')
    (and 1 more)

('ebuild', '/', 'media-libs/x264-0.0.20091021', 'merge') pulled in by
    >=media-libs/x264-0.0.20091021 required by ('ebuild', '/', 'media-video/mplayer-1.0_rc4_p20091026-r1', 'merge')
    (and 1 more)
If I need to twiddle with ffmpeg versions, this might turn into something ugly.

Okay, for stable x86, these three packages need to be unmasked /etc/portage/package.keywords:

Code: Select all

=media-video/mplayer-1.0_rc4_p20091026-r1 ~x86
=media-libs/x264-0.0.20091021 ~x86
=media-video/ffmpeg-0.5_p20373 ~x86

Yep, I too have the same problem...here smplayer says -

The fontconfig option can't be used in a config file.
Error parsing option fontconfig=1 at line 132
Warning unknown option subfont-osd-scale at line 133
Warning unknown option subfont-text-scale at line 134

In it's log which's actually of mplayer.

Having a look at the thread...

Great I did not even search for this thread!...it's was on the main page!

tried to comment those lines and mplayer can play movies,
Yes, I too tired to do that, then smplayer states -

Code: Select all

Warning unknown option subfont-osd-scale at line 133
Warning unknown option subfont-text-scale at line 134
Unknown option on the command line: -ass
Error parsing option on the command line: -ass
MPlayer SVN-r29463-4.3.4 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team
ID_EXIT=NONE
On searching, I found many such problems...it looked like it was for the true type fonts. But that didn't help.
ut no subtitles and smplayer uses options (like -ssa or -nossa) which crashes mplayer.
Yeah, yeah yeah, right.
Downgrade of mplayer doesn't work neither.
No, it doesn't, I have the stable one now.
rlittle wrote:I'm surprised. Why doesn't *everyone* have this problem???
Yeah, +1

Will try -nut and the new package...thanks everyone!

If I recall correctly it has something to do with freetype/fontconfig and openal interaction. People with USE=-openal in mplayer should not see this problem.

No offence, but generally bugs lead to packages getting masked, or the newer versions coming out of ~arch quicker. :(

I'm using -openall in /etc/portage/packages.use and since mplayer-1.0_rc4_p20091026-r1 wen't stable after emerge world -uD --newuse some package got updated and broke my mplayer ... something about libjpeg.so.7 ....

This is suppose to be solved with "revdep-rebuild --library libjpeg.so.7" but since the new mplayer depends on the new version of x264 and this one just won't compile ending with the error "(no error message)" ... stupid error by the way .... i just can't use mplayer for some weeks, neither can i find any solution on the forum ... luckily vlc still works ....
