Mixer Settings will not save in Gnome

Everytime I boot, I have to turn up all my channels everytime. Any ideas?

are you using alsa? then you need to store the alsamixer settings at least once.

I did, I went though that walkthru, but it said nothing about saving ALSA settings, should that save settings on shutdown or something?

to view if alsasound is started or not then

Don't you mean:

not

rc.update add alsasound default

Anyway, lemme see if that helped, and yes, Alsa was started already

before you reboot make sure you do

alsactl store 0

and your sound settings will be saved. you can then use

alsactl restore 0

to restore the settings. The alsasound rc script does the restoration plus other things, but no the initial store.

The commands work. It stored and restored the settings. But it isn't doing it automatically, even the restoration. I would still have to manually turn up the volume settings or run the restore command via terminal. Where are the ALSA startup and shutdown scripts so I can modify them?

try emerge aumix , start aumix adjust your sound levels, save the settings and add aumix to your default runlevel -> rc-update add aumix default ... it works

okies, it I added it to my RC-update, now I'm getting this error on boot:

Sound support has not been compiled into the kernel or is disabled.

Perhaps ALSA needs to be loaded before aumix? How could I fix this?

The only thought I have is that it is loading before ALSA does, can I reorder when they load?

yes you can... change your /etc/init.d/aumix script like this:

	need modules
	after alsa
}

change use alsa to after alsa... that should solve this problem

Even after I edited the code, it still tells me that sound has been disabled or not built into the kernel, and right above it it clearly says:

* ALSA Initialized

The only thing I can think of is to execute the "alsactl restore 0" everytime I boot in a script somewhere. What file do I insert that code into so that it will be run everytime @ boot?
