apr, apache, nvidia-settings won't build normally.. :-(

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

I have a few packages left to finish the world update, but some major packages just won't update:
* The following 4 packages have failed to build or install:
*
* ('ebuild', '/', 'dev-libs/apr-1.3.9', 'merge')
* ('ebuild', '/', 'app-admin/apache-tools-2.2.14', 'merge')
* ('ebuild', '/', 'www-servers/apache-2.2.14-r1', 'merge')
* ('ebuild', '/', 'media-video/nvidia-settings-190.42', 'merge')
What information to provide for examining the problem?

A snippet of build log, starting about 10-15 lines before first error.

Is x11-proto/xf86vidmodeproto installed?

You probably need to upgrade xf86vidmodeproto.

Current version is 2.2.2, last available is 2.3 which is hard masked and I can't unmask it.. still says masked, even with amd64 keyword.

It's not hard masked, it's masked by ~x86 and ~amd64.

Yep, this is what happens when mixing stable with testing, one testing package pulls in other testing packages, some other packages get broken and need to be rebuilt.

I really appreciate your help, could please coordinate me and tell what packages to rebuild/delete/update?
Which one of two are testing? x11-proto or x11-libs group?

media-video/nvidia-settings-190.42 is testing, and the source of your troubles.

[blocks B ] <x11-libs/libXxf86vm-1.0.99.1 ("<x11-libs/libXxf86vm-1.0.99.1" is blocking x11-proto/xf86vidmodeproto-2.3)

I'd say remove x11-libs/libXxf86vm-1.0.99.1, install x11-proto/xf86vidmodeproto-2.3 and run revdep-rebuild. Of course, there may be something else you have to unmask. What portage version you are using?

... and i guess this comes with >=xorg-server-1.7.1 according to
this topic.

Another approach is you set your nvidia-drivers use flag to -gtk in /etc/portage/package.use and nvidida-drivers wont ask for nvidia-settings.
