Post by bjlockie » Fri Oct 23, 2009 9:52 pm

I recompiled it. :-(
Any idea why amarok now crashes?

$ amarok
Object::connect: No such signal BrowserCategoryList::leavingTree()
Object::connect: (sender name: 'internet')
InnoDB: The InnoDB memory heap is disabled
InnoDB: use atomic builtins.
<unknown program name>(16521)/: Communication problem with "amarok" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" "

Did you

Code: Select all

revdep-rebuild --library libjpeg.so.62
rm /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.62
revdep-rebuild
as advised?

In my case it crashes with binutils-2.20, downgrade binutils did the trick.

Yeah, I was getting exactly the same error on my laptop until halfway through writing this post! It was quite frustrating, since my desktop is a relatively identical configuration and yet it works fine 'out of the box'.

OK, here's what just happened. I just had a play around with my configuration files, and found that there were no amarok files in ~/.kde4/share/config, so I copied some backups in from a couple of weeks ago when my laptop had a heart attack. Voila, Amarok starts. Further testing shows that it's specifically amarokrc, as would be expected. If the following section and setting is not in that file, Amarok crashes (for me anyway):

Code: Select all

[MySQL]
UseServer=true
So my advice is try making sure you've got that setting in there. If I commented it out or changed it to false, Amarok would crash. Please post your result soon, I'm very curious to hear if it works! Cheers.

Adding this setting fixed Amarok for me, I was getting the above error.

Thanks.

Hey, that's great news that this has worked for a few people already, thanks for reporting your successes!

bjlockie: If you don't have ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc, then create it and put that code into it.

OK, this is weird.

I just upgraded to amarok-2.2.1-r1 on ~amd64. When I first tried to start it I got the same error as above, and adding the mysql section to amarokrc fixed it.

However, while amarok doesn't crash anymore, my local music collection has disappeared. Looking through the amarok configuration settings I then noticed that the "Use external MySQL database" checkbox was selected (I'm sure it didn't use to be).

When I un-checked the box and restarted amarok, I got the same crash again, and looking in amarokrc I saw that the mysql section that I had previously added had now gone.

Any ideas anyone?

I've just noticed I'm getting exactly the same problem as well - local music collection is gone. I'm currently re-emerging binutils-2.19.1-r1 to see if I can get amarok to start without the MySQL option and see my local collection again.

@bendy : I had the same problem. I fixed that creating the amarokdb database in MySQL and granting the good rights to the amarokuser. I relaunched amarok and all was ok...

Downgrading binutils as advised in the amarok ebuild, then rebuilding amarok and upgrading binutils to 2.20 leaves amarok still working here fine. So it is definitely just the version of binutils that is installed when amarok is compiled that is the problem, not the version of binutils when amarok is run.
