All,

I would like to offer not only my personal condolences, but also those of General Education Online. You see, Ferris, who I became friends with several years ago, provided time of himself to GEO in addition to Gentoo. He was willing to spend the time to help me find the best way forward for our organization -- in some cases even when he was pressed for time himself.

The full text of my release can be found at http://www.findaschool.org/press/index. ... 2009-08-12.

Someone like Ferris comes around rarely -- both he and his input to our organization will be sorely missed.

Once again, my condolences.

Best regards

While I didn't know him, I share in the loss others feel. May he find peace on the other side of the veil.

Blessed be!

This is sad news

I was usually ignored or unseen by other people in gentoo's sparc irc channel and I appreciated the attention and sincerity that fmccor gave to me when I wanted it. Though I didn't know him in person, it felt like he was a friend. He left an impression on me and I was very sad to read about this.

I can't say I knew Ferris well if at all, as we only briefly chatted on IRC a couple of times; but from what I've read of his mailing list posts and about how much he's helped others both in and out of Gentoo-land, it's plain to see that the world needs more amazing people like him.

Rest In Peace, Ferris. You will be missed.

I've had five goes at writing this post because I wanted to keep it short and to the point.
I've failed every time. I know fmccor would not mind a long rambling post.
When he engaged in an issue, he put a lot of effort into understanding all the differing points of view as can be seen by his mailing list contributions.

He was good at pouring oil on the sometimes troubled waters of the social interactions of Gentoo developers, possibly because he had been there and done that himself.

Gentoo the distro and the Gentoo Foundation Inc will miss him.

Goodbye for now Ferris

I'm sorry to see you go, Ferris, but hope you'll find peace where you currently are. I regret that I have never told you how I regard you. I'll certainly do that when we meet, though. Ferris, rest in peace.

Just to let everyone know the foundation has made a donation to the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) in Ferris's name. I know a few people requested a place to donate and after consideration and communication with Ferris's family it was deemed that the Electronic Frontier Foundation would be an appropriate charity to donate to.
I'm not afraid of happy endings, just afraid my life wont work that way.
