Video Card Component Output and Borders

  • Quote

Post by Kenji Miyamoto » Tue Aug 25, 2009 5:12 am

I'm trying to use the built-in component output of my video card (a GeForce 9500 GT) to output to my LCD television, but the areas around the edges are cut-off. For example, if I watch mplayer -fs, around forty pixels along each side aren't visible, blocked by the border of the television, regardless of display mode. Is there a way I can mitigate this?

My current setup involves using these options to configure the display:

Code: Select all

Option "TVStandard" "HD720p"
Option "metamodes" "CRT: 1280x720 +0+0"

This sounds like it's caused by overscan have you checked out the docs? file:///usr/share/doc/nvidia-drivers-180.60/html/chapter-16.html

How do I correct it on the nVidia drivers? I've seen two options:
  1. Use some slider related to overscan in nvidia-settings. I've gone through every setting there, and there is no such slider. Apparently it was removed.
  2. Option "TVOverScan" "1.0". As far as I can tell, that doesn't change a thing.
I tested these with xterm -geometry 1280x720+0+0.

 Option "TVOverScan" "0.0"
change anything?

It doesn't change anything. I've tried 0.0, 0.5, 0.9, and 1.0, and none of them change a thing.
