Some, but not all, multimedia keys stopped working in Xfce

I am using Xfce 4.6 and have my multimedia keys configured via the Xfce4 Keyboard settings manager. Until recently all of my preconfigured keys worked without problem.

Now however some of them stopped working, the volume keys and mute key are still working but the previous, next and play/pause-buttom has stopped working. When troubleshooting with xev or trying to reconfigure my multimedia keys Xfce seems to capture the key pressing exactly as intended but no action seems to performed on the problematic buttons when testing them after configuring. I don't know if it stopped working when upgrading to Xfce 4.6 or if it was before.

I have also tried activating the HotKey-plugin for audacious but it doesn't seem to grab the key pressing either.

Does anyone have a clue about what could be causing the error or how to further troubleshoot this?

Have you updated hal and/or evdev recently?


Check by installing genlop...

genlop -l | grep hal

If you have then it may be that your keyboard layout isn't being mapped correctly, see this thread for how to correct this.

No, I haven't updated hal recently, last time was March and I know it was working until just recently.

When I try to define a new "Application Shortcut" in the Keyboard preferences in Xfce it grabs my keys perfectly, but after closing the preference application just some of the shortcuts works.

Evdev was updated in May and it could be somewhere around there it stopped working. But as it seems to grab the key in the preference dialog I don't think it's related to evdev - or could it?
