Help with creation, editing, or playback of sounds, images, or video. Amarok, audacious, mplayer, grip, cdparanoia and anything else that makes a sound or plays a video.

2 questions: deitnerlacing & realmedia plugin

  • Quote

Post by grepcomputers » Wed Oct 15, 2003 1:37 am

First:
whenever I play lower-quality segments on dvd's, I get this wierd tearing (always horizontal) on the edges of color blocks. I figure it is some kind of deinterlacing thing. but when I try to enable deinterlace, I always get an error along the lines of:
"video_out_xshm: tried to get unsupported property 0"

Second:
I emerged realone, but it said it wasn't installing the nsplugin because it was defunct. So I can't get realmedia to play through my browser. And realplayer won't emerge because it says the fetch restriction is turned on. What do I have to do to get a realmedia plugin for mozilla/firebird?

cheers...

I already have mplayerplug-in emerged, and whenever I go to a site with realmedia stuff, it keep asking me to download a plugin... When I go to a site with quicktime, it seems to work there...

cheers...

Check out /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf

Change this:

Code: Select all

# Disable some video formats
#enable-real=0
To this:

Code: Select all

# Disable some video formats
enable-real=1
Now check your Mozilla/Firebird plugins by typing about:plugins in the address window. You should see realaudio etc associated with mplayerplug now and everything will hopefully work...
If not, can you play a realvideo file through mplayer command line? Check the FAQ on mplayerplug-in page for samples and report back your progress.

As for your interlacing issue -- Use mplayer command line like so:

Code: Select all

mplayer -vf pp=lb dvd://1
If still error, try:

Code: Select all

mplayer -vo xv -vf pp=lb dvd://1

The real plugin is not showing up at all in about:plugins
I *can* play realmedia files through mplayer - cli and gui.

I've restarted the browser, but that didn't help.

cheers...

and a bizarre twist - the realplayer plugin stuff shows up in mozilla when run as *root*, but not as when my normal user is running it.

Has anyoune found a solution to the above problem?

I did edit /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf

And as the last message states--
I can get an association of realone with mplayer under root, but not as a
normal user.

I am also a member of the audio and viideo groups.

Thanks DB

I found the answer to my above problem. As stated in mplayer plug-in site http://forums.gentoo.org/posting.php?mo ... e2e43a09ef

One must delete the file $HOME/.mozilla/pluginreg.dat
after one edits the $HOME/.mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf
file
