Command Line Audio Players

  • Quote

Post by Enverex » Tue Jun 16, 2009 9:33 am

Hello all, I'm looking for command line audio players for the following formats:

.vgz (Megadrive/genesis), .nsf (NES), .spc (SNES), .psf (Playstation), .gbs (Gameboy), .sid (C64).

The main catch is that they also need to be able to export to .wav format, these two points aren't negotiable.

UADE (uade123) is perfect for Amiga formats (mod/xm/med, etc) but I can't find anything for the other formats above.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Have you tried mplayer? Usually, if mplayer can play it, then mencoder can encode it in whatever format you want.

Well, then, I know it's not what you asked for, but I remember that there were some plugins for xmms to play some exotic media files from consoles and the like. The first problem is that xmms is not a command line tool. The second is that it's unmaintained, you can expect problems to compile it, and even bigger problems to find and compile these plugins, if that's even possible at all. But if you find them, then you should be able to use the wav output plugin to convert these files to wav.

There are also plugins for spc on gstreamer, but I have no experience with them:

Yeah, the command line bit isn't really negotiable as its running on a headless server. Strange there aren't more players out there.

Google can help you. I had found links for .vgm and .gbs player, .nsf player, .spc player, psf player, and a sid player

Please read the thread:
AO isn't command line.
Nosefart and Festalon don't decode to wav (infact they have zero command line options and no manpage which is odd).
Sexypsf is a plugin only (as far as I can tell).

Sidplay is hopefully a good one but I'm already looking into that. Something like AO that is command line would be ideal but it doesn't mention that anywhere and the picture leads me to believe it's GUI only.
