Amarok doesn't show collection

Hey guys, I hope you can help me out.

I updated to KDE 4.2.2 yesterday and since the update amarok doesn't show me my collection.
I recently added ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" to make.conf and update to "unstable". With the KDE 4.2.2 update amarok got recompiled and doesn't work properly since then.
I already deleted and rescanned my collection, and it is definitely there (~/.kde4/share/apps/amarok/mysqle/ibdata1 is 10 MB big) but amarok doesn't show it.

This is what amarok puts out at start:

Code: Select all

amarok(11208) Phonon::KdePlatformPlugin::createBackend: using backend:  "Xine"
InnoDB: The log sequence number in ibdata files does not match

And as you can see, amarok doesn't even shutdown properly... I always have to kill it on commandline.

I already recompiled the whole system (emerge -ave world) but no change.
Perhaps one of you has seen similar or knows whats wrong. Thanks in advance guys. :-)

Same here with amarok-9999.
It's because of the new version of mysql-5.0.76-r1 or mysql-community-5.0.77-r1.
Unfortunately it works for some people (the kde devs).
I've been stuck with this for 2 days now :(

Thank you very much mikkoc! How did I not see this...
I unmerged amarok, downgraded to the latest mysql stable (dev-db/mysql-5.0.70-r1), restartet mysql and then re-emerged amarok... and my collection is back. :-)

I wouldn't say the problem is solved... it's just a workaround...

I marked it solved because it works with the current "stable" version of mysql and leaving it unsolved here doesn't help anyone I think. Since it's an amarok bug the appropriate action would be to file a bugreport at bugs.kde.org or am I thinking wrong?

I'm tried mysql-5.0.70,.72, and .76 and I can't get the collection to show with any of them.

It's not an amarok bug.

ok, removed the [SOLVED] since >=dev-db/mysql-5.0.76-r1[embedded,-minimal] is required now.

I have the same problem on amd64. The collection is empty in amarok 2.0.2 and 2.0.90 too. I have tried "--as-needed" LD flag as proposed in amarok forum http://amarok.kde.org/forum/index.php/t ... 871.0.html and no success.
Any solution for at least 2.0.2?

Edit: I have installed mysql-community-5.0.77-r1

Thanks for directing me to the LDFLAGS="-Wl,--as-needed" workaround, as that has got me working on one machine. Strangely enough, nothing needed changing on the other!

mysql-community-5.0.77-r1 if anyone is interested.

mysql-community-5.0.77-r1 if anyone is interested.
That's interesting. For which ebuild have you set these flags? Amarok or mysql-community? What version of amarok do you have? Do you have compiled mysql-community with any special flags like -fPIC -DPIC?

the LDFLAGS trick got the collection working for me with MySQL .76 and Amarok 2.0.2-r1, but after a while, it went bonkers and got the artists all confused (the tags in the files are still OK).

Hi...

mysql-community-5.0.77-r1 is compliled with my normal CFLAGS, ie no PIC included. Only amarok-9999 was compiled with the --as-needed flag.

I've not had time to try it long enough though to know if it messes up the artists etc.

This is strange. It is not working in my system with amarok-9999.
My CFLAGS="-march=core2 -O2 -pipe"

Hello,

on my system the following procedure led to an amarok scanning and showing my collection (though I didn't check for the mentioned problem above concerning a faulty database):
Mysql-community-5.0.77-r1 built without any modifications of my *FLAGS.
Amarok built with the following modification:

Code: Select all

$ cat /etc/portage/env/media-sound/amarok
CFLAGS="-march=core2 -O2 -pipe -msse4.1 -Wl,--as-needed"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
Remember to adjust this flags for your processor, I just added -Wl,--as-needed to the CFLAGS from my make.conf.
Alternatively adding LDFLAGS="--as-needed" could also work since -Wl,"option" just passes "option" to the linker.

System info: Portage 2.2_rc31 (default/linux/amd64/2008.0, gcc-4.3.3, glibc-2.9_p20081201-r2, 2.6.29-gentoo-r1 x86_64)

regards,
Uri

Using stable mysql and amarok-2.0.2: I just copied the amarok-2.0.1.1 ebuild to local overlay and then emerged that. That seems to work absolutely fine without any fPIC or --as-needed hacks. In fact, I had been using this combination for about 2 weeks, but then decided to upgrade amarok to the 2.0.2-r1 portage version and came across this bug.
Is this a problem with mysql, amarok or the amarok ebuild?

amarok-2.0.2-r2 is in the tree, seems to have fixed the problem without any user hacks necessary

Thanks!

Yes, I can also confirm that amarok-2.0.2-r2 is working in my system. I think this thread can be marked as sloved.

Today when I logged back in I got this message:
Amarok could not find any collection plugins. it is possible that Amarok is installed under the wrong prefix, please fix your installation using:

Code: Select all

$ cd /path/to/amarok/source-code/
$ su -c "make uninstall"
$ cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix` && su -c "make install"
$ kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental
$ amarok
More information can be found in the README file. For further assistance join us at #amarok on irc.freenode.net.
It looks like that is just saying to emerge -C amarok, then re-emerge it with -kdeprefix, then run kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental.
I'm using kdeprefix (in make.conf). Is this correct? I didn't find an amarok/source-code/ directory, just the distfiles, ebuilds, etc.
Advice appreciated (not sure where the readme is referenced above) /jim

[edit] well, just re-emerging doesn't do it - I don't believe there is a USE flag of kdeprefix for amarok.

I can also confirm that amarok-2.0.2-r2 fixes the problems with the collection, including the corruption.

No special options needed for mysql or amarok (other than the +embedded flag, of course).

I have mysql-5.0.76-r1 USE="berkdb embedded perl ssl installed. I do not have mysql-community installed (mysql blocks it)

I cannot run amarok because of the above error msg I get. Anything anyone can suggest I try? I haven't messed with cflags or anything. /jim

Have you tried uninstalling mysql and amarok, resyncing and emerging both of them again? You could also try rebuilding all of kde again. Which qt and kde version are you using?

I'm using kdeprefix too, and I have had no such problems.
