[SOLVED] Ctrl+Alt+Del not working after xorg upgrade

  • Quote

Post by elcugo » Wed Apr 15, 2009 5:04 am

Hi! I just upgraded some packages the last couple of days, xorg-1.5.3 and KDE-4.2.2, and got a few problems. First is that my keyboard and mouse stoped working so I had to rewrite my xorg.conf. Then the arrow keys didn't work, but I could fix it with some googling.

The problem I have right now is that some key combos don't seem to do what they should. Ctrl+Alt+Del should show the shutdown dialog, but it doesn't seem to work. Other keys that don't work are Ctrl+Alt+PgDn which should shutdown the computer without confirmation. Some keys does work, such as Ctrl+Alt+L which locks down the session correctly.

I'm inclined to believe that this is xorg's fault, but I'm not sure. Everything worked fine when I used xorg-1.4.something and KDE 4.2.1. Any hints in how to debug and hopefully fix this issue?

I generated my new config via "Xorg -configure" and then edited by hand. I don't quite remember how I generated my old config, I must had been used xorgconfig or similar.

Thanks.

maybe cuz u dont have
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
in the new one? just a thought, i dunno

you could also try switching to the kdb driver..
Driver "kbd"

I changed from "pc105" to "evdev" to solve the arrow keys issue I mentioned early. But I sometimes don't get the arrow key to work with the new config anyway so I don't know anymore.

"kbd" and "mouse" entries are completely ignored when Xorg starts.

Hi, since you use the stock version, your /etc/X11/xorg.conf should be like this :

Code: Select all

   Identifier "X.org Configured"
   Screen 0 "Screen0"
EndSection

Section "Files"
   ModulePath "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules"
   FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/misc/"
   FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/TTF/"
   FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/OTF"
   FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1/"
   FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi/"
   FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi/"
EndSection
