A way to get the file size view in KDE 4?

Hi,

Is there a way to get teh file size view in KDE 4 (without installing kdelibs:3.5 again)?

It's one of the features I direly miss...

Edit: You can get it by first emerging "konq-plugins" and then switching to the filemanager profile - views will then contain the file size view again.

Settings -> Load View Profile -> File Management
View -> View Mode -> File Size View

I am not sure I understand your problem. Both Konqueror and Dolphin shows the file size in human readable format both in detail view and Information sidebar.

If you ask for the properties of a file, the "General" tab shows the file size in both human readable and exact byte count formats.

I was looking for that functionality in konqueror/dolphin as well. But it seems to be missing. So to get that exact thing I think we're out of luck. There is however and alternative application called 'filelight' that happens to be in portage. It Qt too! Unfortunately it's kde 3.5 not 4, so you'll still need to have appropriate libraries, you probably have the libs already if you use apps that weren't ported yet like k3b.

@ewaller, OP is referring to a View Mode in Konqueror that shows, graphically, the sizes of files and directories. They show up as colored boxes, ordered according to size.

I'm interested in this as well. It's not something I use often, but when I need it, I really need it. I know I had it in Kubuntu, along with 50 other apps and plugins I have absolutely no use for.

I had thought it was included by default, but apparently that is not true. I've done some half-hearted searching so far, but if it's available as a separate package I haven't found it.

I'm on KDE 4.2.1 and I can activate file size view simply by starting Konqueror and activating file management: Settings -> Load View Profile -> File Management. Now you can activate the file size view: View -> View Mode -> File Size View.

... I didn't expect it to be available only in the file management profile - I never thought that the profile would affect the views.

That does look I nice feature, unfortunately I don't seem to have it in my 4.2.1 install. Could I bother anyone for whom this works for their USE flag settings?

have only **three** view mode options: icons, details, columns

Who do you have to bribe to get the extra view mode

I emerged kde-base/konq-plugins before trying the suggestion, but I don't know if that's connected.
