Thanks for reporting this issue. I ll take a look as soon as possible

I am affraid I cant answer your question about kde4+100% cpu. You should ask guys on kde-testing topic -> http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-722264.html

@ All

I will drop opengl use flag on qt-gui live ebuilds for now until I come up with a solution for the linking problem

Regards to the kded4 using 100% CPU I had the same problem, however after rebuilding kdelibs, pykde and all plasma stuff, the problem disappeared. Since kded4 is part of kdelibs, I think rebuilding kdelibs would suffice.

Stumbled on this discussion on the Qt Labs blog, from Feb. 10 (by way of the Mandriva Cooker forum)- very interesting and informative: http://labs.trolltech.com/blogs/2009/02 ... use-qt-45/

There's also this other one, from Dec. I found worth reading. http://labs.trolltech.com/blogs/2008/12 ... ing-qt-45/

not really an important issue, but the live builds seem to fail with +doc, getting loads of qdoc errors looking like this:

Code: Select all

/var/tmp/portage/x11-libs/qt-core-4.5.9999/work/qt-x11-opensource-src-4.5.9999/doc/src/examples/svgalib.qdoc:133: Unexpected '\snippet (//! [0])'

Could you please provide more details about that?

Give us an error log, and tell us if you use qt-phonon or media-sound phonon

testing this, wow.. the raster backend is noticably faster, even on my quad core system, I didn't think I'd notice but I really do.

And the only problems I've run into, is icons for non qt applications look a bit wrong in the systray (but kde ones now render fine, which they didn't before), and the bouncy icon for startup notification renders wrong.

So none of the widgets I use have any issues whatsoever :p

Yeah systray and startup notifiction is a bit screwed here too with raster engine, indeed. And I saw dolphin crashing when right clicking things.

Is this possible to enable raster in Qt-4.5.0_rc1?

I tried Qt-4.5.0_rc1 from overlay and fonts look much worse compared to Qt-4.2.2 from portage. They are thin. Have you noticed something similar?

Turn on verbose messaging (-v) to ./configure to see the final report.
If you believe this message is in error you may use the continue
switch (-continue) to ./configure to continue.

Code: Select all

[ebuild R ] media-libs/gstreamer-0.10.21-r3 USE="nls -debug -test" 0 kB
Hope this helps

EDIT
Now after layman sync, qt-qt3support wants to pull in qt-phonon-4.5.0_rc1 which blocks media-sound/phonon. media-sound/phonon is required for kdelibs-4.2 :(

My fellow Qt addicts 8)

Qt-4.5.0_rc1 + qt-creator-0.9.2_rc1 is now on tree.

Please fill bugs on bugzilla for those packages and not here :)

This thread remains strictly related with qting-edge overlay 8)

I have USE="-gstreamer" and I'm using the xine backend instead. I'm getting the same blockage. Does this mean I have to re-emerge media-sound/phonon with gstreamer on?

Would it work if I modified the ebuild to avoid gstreamer?

You have these choices:
1) Disable USE=phonon on qt-qt3support
2) Use qt-phonon (which uses gstreamer), and not use kde4
3) Use media-sound/phonon with gstreamer useflag enabled
Would it work if I modified the ebuild to avoid gstreamer?
No. It's there for a reason. You can only get phonon support in Qt by using gstreamer.
Tho you can avoid it by disabling the phonon useflag.

It's very interesting - I ran into a similar problem. My fonts turned completely unreadable. Changing the hinting style did not help. But I fixed the issue by changing subpixel rendering from 'Vertical RGB' to 'RGB'. Do you think, we should file a bug? If so, where do I go: Gentoo, KDE, Nokia?

It is up to you . I would say kde bugzilla but this is a rare situation and i dont know if you can reproduce it if they ask you to do. Upgrading Qt to 4.5 has different effects on different users so I am not sure if this is a bug or not. In fact i did upgrade Qt-4.4.2->Qt-4.5 on 4 machines and only one of them had some troubles , but remerging all applications that depend on qt-gui fixed the issue

So as you can see, its pretty confusing situation.

sorry if i´m going to say sth. stupid but i installed qt-4.5.0-r1 because i thought i had read somewhere that nsplugin support was there already.
All i need is a browser that knows what flash is, so i tried arora from your overlay and it apparently doesn´t work.

What am i doing wrong ? or am i using the wrong version ?

thanks in advance for any advice !

All i need is a browser that knows what flash is, so i tried arora from your overlay and it apparently doesn´t work.

What am i doing wrong ? or am i using the wrong version ?

thanks in advance for any advice !
Well, khtml will work fine with flash, and is the same codebase as webkit, so it's pretty fast. You can also use kmplayer with npp to handle flash plugins, qt4.5 is supposed to have flash working in webkit though, without any hacks. And it does work for me. Check file assosiations for shockwave flash.

thanks for your answer neuron !

i´ve been using arora/midori for quite some time now ( but don´t use gnome or kde) and they worked quite well for me so far, specially arora looks more robust to me.
I just wanted to see how well the flash stuff works using one of these but I´m unable to get latest gtk-webkit stuff to compile so that i checked out latest arora.
Check file assosiations for shockwave flash.
excuse my ignorance but where exactly do i look this up ? to be honest i haven´t digged into it seriously ... yet ...

thanks !

That'd be a kde setting, kcontrol panel -> advanced -> file assosiations, but I doubt that'd affect arora/midori. I just tested arora, and it works fine on my system, with flash. That's qt4.5 rc1 and latest flash from portage. Keep in mind if you've got an old running system that they might not check .mozilla/plugins for the flash plugin.
