wrc1944: I am not sure if this is your problem but today there was a post on the kde mailing list saying that libical 0.42 is now required for kdepimlibs. We only have 0.33 so we have to wait for the main tree to update or compile libical yourself.

Mask all versions less than 3.5.10 and unmask 3.5.10*

For kipi-plugins if you remove the USE ="calandar", you don't have this error.

.. fix xorg rather than to revert? It's not intended to crash after minutes of use.

Try to fix it, if you need help capture a persisting X thread or start a new one. xorg-x11-7.4 crashing is not normal behaviour.

sorry but for day to day use of my pc i had to revert to x11-base/xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r6

i only have this error in my browser cache (i've done some search about it):

Code: Select all

(EE) config/hal: Adding input device AT Translated Set 2 keyboard
(EE) config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed
there were a couple of this errors in xorg output after crashes...

now i have:

Code: Select all

*  x11-base/xorg-server
      Latest version available: 1.3.0.0-r6
      Latest version installed: 1.3.0.0-r6
      Size of files: 9,046 kB
      Homepage: http://xorg.freedesktop.org/
      Description: X.Org X servers
      License: xorg-server MIT

everything works just fine...
the problem is upgrading xorg-server to 1.5.x

Krog: I had the same problem, I tracked it down to one of my xorg.conf entries.

I removed everything in the Device section and I don't get any more crashes. The entries had accumulated over a few years so I am not sure which ones help.

Here is my new device section, as you can see virtually everything is commented now.

Code: Select all

    Identifier "Videocard0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
    BoardName "GeForce 7900 GS"
# Option "RenderAccel" "true"
# Option "DisableGLXRootClipping" "true"
# Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true"
# Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
# Option "UseCompositeWrapper" "true"
# Option "IncludeImplicitMetaModes" "false"

As I told often enough now, you can almost entirely scrap your xorg.conf with xorg-x11-7.4, mine contains a humble 4-liner, others don't need even that anymore.

Code: Select all

Section "Device"
        Identifier "7900gto"
        Driver "nvidia"
EndSection
Would have probably been enough to get your X running and faster than reverting back to antiquity.

Thanks Titoucha,

I just gave it a try by adding mjpeg and redeyes as well as -scanner and something wanted to pull in opencv. But that failed with:

Code: Select all

pyhelpers.cpp' || echo './'`pyhelpers.cpp
libtool: compile:  i686-pc-linux-gnu-g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I../../.. -I../../../cv/include -I../../../cxcore/include -I../../../otherlibs/highgui -DCV_NO_BACKWARD_COMPATIBILITY -DNDEBUG -fPIC -I/usr/include/python2.5 -Wall -fno-rtti -pipe -O3 -g -march=i686 -ffast-math -fomit-frame-pointer -march=prescott -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -MT _highgui_la-pyhelpers.lo -MD -MP -MF .deps/_highgui_la-pyhelpers.Tpo -c pyhelpers.cpp  -fPIC -DPIC -o .libs/_highgui_la-pyhelpers.o

So I don't know - maybe the python? (pyname) path is not clear to the ebuild. No biggey - I think digikam is still working - maybe using the older kipi-plugins. /jd

[edit] I guess Digikam is crashing a lot on me to the point of not being usable, so perhaps it is the kipi-plugins issue or something. Dang.

iwant to get paludis to instal kde-live sets from the kde-testing overlay.
i just don't want to create the sets myself as i think kde-testing has sets for kde-live ebuilds already.
(Documentation folder)

can anyboby help with the paludis command line syntax?
thanks!
this is a strange strange world.

Hi hunky.

I compiled opencv with these options and its functions.

Code: Select all

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] media-libs/opencv-1.0.0-r1 USE="gtk jpeg png tiff zlib -debug -demos -examples -ffmpeg -ieee1394 -jpeg2k -openexr -python -v4l -xine" 0 kB

yes, thankyou. I was able to compile that opencv without the python dependency, but doesn't appear I can yet compile kipi-plugins. I tried it with your flags and it failed with a slightly different error with the +redeyes, but same otherwise. /jd

for my past xorg problems, seems to be ok to compile

Code: Select all

xorg-server
and

Code: Select all

xf86-input-evdev
WITHOUT hal use flag and keep the old xorg.config untouched
