EndSectiontry withoutKrog: I had the same problem, I tracked it down to one of my xorg.conf entries.
I removed everything in the Device section and I don't get any more crashes. The entries had accumulated over a few years so I am not sure which ones help.
Here is my new device section, as you can see virtually everything is commented now.
