Recommended way to set up SPF with Postfix

  • Quote

Post by wdsci » Mon Feb 16, 2009 1:51 am

I'm trying to enable SPF on my mail server, which runs Postfix 2.5.5 (on Gentoo of course :wink:) There seem to be many different daemons and libraries that implement SPF, but many of them seem to be buggy and/or not actively maintained. Can anyone recommend a particular SPF implementation for Postfix? Ideally, I want a solution that only involves (1) emerging packages that are in Portage and (2) editing the Postfix configuration files. I'd rather not have to apply patches to Postfix or install software that's not in Portage, although I can do so if necessary.

I am not interested in reasons I shouldn't be using SPF (as I've seen posted on previous threads on this subject).

spamassassin can do spf checks. punching your mail through amavis which uses spamassassin is a quite simple thing.

i would go with policyd

the version on portage seems a little older (1.8.2) since 2.0.6 is available on the page.

++, reasons are good :)

I'm reluctant to go with SpamAssassin because I've heard that it hogs a lot of RAM, and I don't have much memory to work with on this server.

depends on the setup, folks. Some people are already using spamassassin for fighting spam. So it would be easier enabling the plugin instead of installing a new daemon.

well i don't prefer amavisd-new + spamassassin.
i use dspam on my setup. so policyd is the prefered way for me.

of course using spamassassin + spf might get you the same results as using policyd.
it's your choice :)
