When emerging the latest ati-drivers it pulls xorg-server v1.5 as a dependency. However, when running X with the ati driver it complains that the driver does not support ABI versions above 2.0, and that the version used by xorg-server is 4.1. Also my videocard is not recogniced (radeon hd 3450) and I get the error "no screens found". As I can tell the driver has not dropped support for the R600 chip but for R300 and below. However, PCI bus scanning has been replaced with libpciaccess in the recent xorg-server.
I upgraded the driver because of support for the newer kernel versions. With kernel 2.6.28 (gentoo-sources) I've resolved problems with my webcam, ALSA and some usb problems.
Has anyone else encountered the same problems when trying to upgrade kernel/ati-drivers/xorg? It seems stupid that the driver pulls a dependency not supporting the same versions of the ABI classes. Will I be able to compile a less recent ati driver with kernels above 2.6.24 without pulling xorg-server v1.5?
Thanks.
