This is now fixed in the overlay, just sync and re-try.
Is this just a temporary problem, or what? Oh, and by the way, compiz called
for a re-emerge of libX11 with xcb flag turned on (don't know if that is in any
way relevant and there was no problem with the libX11 emerge).
xcb is now mandatory. If it causes you problem try

Not mentioned in the wiki is to create /etc/env.d/00local and add

You can see it in the desktop-effects git overlay here:

I've been doing some searching and I haven't been able to determine how to get Paludis to use these sets. I just ended up unmerging the compiz-fusion ebuild and upgrading the components.

I've restored the compiz-fusion package.
I'll be asking a few people how to create a set for paludis so that those using paludis can take advantage of sets as well.

I agree with you, I don't think that it is a good idea to force users to install a rc of portage (which is one of most important packages in gentoo) only to install compiz-fusion.
For now I masked last version ...
Most of you seem to be overlooking that compiz and related ebuilds are all ~arch and not arch and that if you're so tied to a stable system, then you probably shouldn't be running compiz in the first place. If you don't want to switch to the testing branch of portage or paludis, just keyword their release that supports EAPI-2, portage-2.2_rc11 and paludis-0.30.1.

UPDATE:

on the gentoo desktop effects web site it saids:

ShortLog:
11 hours ago Jorge Manuel... Fixed the patch file name. master commit | commitdiff | tree | snapshot (tar.gz tar.bz2 zip)
But it wasn't fixed correctly because I just tried to install it and still got the same missing patch message.

UPDATE:
FIXED! :)

I just posted in IRC but no response so far.

avant-window-navigator-extras-9999 seems to fail on

Code: Select all

configure: error: python module pynotify required (python-notify)
hence the ebuild should pull in dev-python/notify-python

Can anyone else confirm?
If so, can we get the ebuild updated?

Cheers,

A little off topic to what you guys are talking about. But I just emerged all these packages again (haven't done it in a while) and LOST a few things. I am missing lots of the different effects I used to use in compiz-fusion. What did they do to this overlay? Is it dead? Is it better just to remove it and use the version of the packages that are in portage?

After a recent upgrade, a lot of animation effects where set to N/A in animation plugin's settings, like minimize/maximize animations etc. Just set these again.

How do you do that? I found the missing ones in a section called "Animations Add-On", enabled it but nowhere does it actually let you use them. How does moving some of the animations to a seperate section make any sense anyway?

The Animations Add-On looks just like a fine tuning for the Animations in the regular Animations plugin.

I had to (re-)select my desired animations in the normal Animations plugin, like
-> Animation 'minimize'
-> select that N/A thing
-> click edit
-> set it to random
-> and select all effects I want for random stuff

Same for focus animations. Those two were unset for some reason.

Ahh, I did another re-emerge of them today and they are all back again. About half of them were missing before. I must have caught it at a bad time when I emerged it a couple days ago.

I've been using Dominicus' script to keep compiz up to date, but I now seem to have fubared myself. The emerge fails on the dev-python/compizconfig-python-9999 package, here are the details:

Anyone have a suggestion here? Is this a python versioning issue or am I missing some other package? I've been out of the loop for a while now, and this has me scratching my head...

*update* re-emerging python 2.5 and running python-config seemed to fix this...

I had same problem yesterday with live ebuilds but the keyworded ebuilds do emerge. I would just emerge the keyworded ones for now, I saw no real difference.

I can confirm that....I just switched from the live ebuilds to the 7.8 ebuilds...no issues and works great!

You can fix it by downgrading dev-util/intltool. Went back to 0.37.1 and the problem was gone.

thanks !

that's what I was looking for, seems I had unmasked >=0.36* so 0.40* got emerged, I'll try that trick later :)

update:

it worked, great !

thanks a lot 8)

how about re-launching emerald ? after you've selected a new theme in emerald-theme-manager ?

Code: Select all

emerald --replace &

Does anyone else have the problem where ccsm does not do anything and compiz complains about not being able to load the ccp module? This is what I get when I start compiz manually:

Code: Select all

~ $ LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 compiz --replace gconf ccp &
compiz (core) - Error: Couldn't load plugin 'ccp'
compiz (core) - Error: Couldn't load plugin 'put'
compiz (core) - Error: Couldn't load plugin 'animation'
compiz (cube) - Warn: Failed to load slide: freedesktop
compiz (core) - Error: Couldn't load plugin '3d'

hello there i just finished from a "emerge -e world" because of a gcc upgrade and when i start compiz with fusion-icon from my kde there aren't any window borders at all...also the key bindings don't work though i check that they are correct...when i try as my user to start compiz from konsole i get

Code: Select all

compiz (core) - Error: Screen 0 on display ":0.0" already has a window manager; try using the --replace option to replace the current window manager.
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0
and even with "compiz --replace" there aren't again any window borders...anyone would suggest something to solve my problem? thanks in advance...

Edit: it seemed like it also needed a restart on X...now everything works...sorry to bother you
