I was able to compile RC1 originally, but I can't get to build the later RCs. Currently getting this error with RC4:

Code: Select all

Reason(s):

Attention: if you build and deliver the above module(s) you may prolongue your the build issuing command "build --from vcl"

It builds fine here without pam:

You could try my local ebuild which pulls in the latest Go-OO source 3.0.0.6:

ebuild: http://rafb.net/p/wUGKyP58.html
needing a modified gentoo-3.0.0.6.diff: http://rafb.net/p/FFiQiQ23.html

Still compiling it myself now, so I can't tell if it works. It should at least resolve the USE="-java" issue failing at module 'stax'.

I installed the full openoffice-3.0 from Portage yesterday without error, though it was still hard masked from my sync on 10/14. See:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-71 ... ffice.html

Good luck. ymmv

Zaister, see what happens when you run:

Code: Select all

python-updater -i -p
If it lists packages it would rebuild, let it rebuild them by re-running without the -p.

That may solve the problem. In any case, it should do no harm.

Thanks for the tip. However, I'm getting only "Couldn't determine any previous Python version(s)." I have only Python 2.5.2-r8 installed, and my last update was September 20 (from -r7), 2.5.1 was replaced in April long ago.

VCL is the widgit set. It's being broken as it's finding the kde4 set first and it's not ported to kde4. The build would have to be patched to look for kdelibs-3.5 directly.

I couldnt' get it to build without the kde flag either, and just went with openoffice-bin
My emerge --info
Have you run revdep-rebuild lately? It's in gentoolkit and it's worth a shot if things don't work well.

assclass.obj !! Ha ha, never noticed that. Compiling as well, even synced twice in two hours as I discovered that Oo3 went stable...

Wonderful feeling using Gentoo and watching it (and in general: Linux) incrementally getting better and more mature. Now I'm looking forward to KDE 3.5.10 and KDE integration in firefox. Does anybody know if we can expect a system where Oo can work with files on samba shares?

BTW, kudos to the devs and the ones testing for having a monster like Oo stable this fast!

Yeah, I'm sure that name was totally a coincidence...some ooo programmer is probably laughing his asslclass off that he got a source file named 'assclass' into the source :D No complaints, it's free and it's good!

And yes, I was really surprised and happy that ooo3 went stable so quickly....it's a good sign for the disto that the momentum is picking up again...that and the fact that there are so many new users showing up in the forums...all good for Gentoo.

Well, some open source people seem to have a very developed sense of humor. Did you ever notice that in the Microsoft world, when you browse some kind of directions concerning what kind of smartness can be done with the system, you'd always encounter example filenames like "managementbuzzzwords.sth". Well, I remember an open source guy using example filenames like "bigboobs.jpg" in that situation...

You can, but you need the gnome USE flag set(unless its changed for 3.0 of course), see this thread

Thanks, I missed that one. In the meantime my Ooo3 compile has finished, and the new version works like a charm with samba shares without the "gnome" USE flag.

I just installed OO3 on both Gentoo & Vista. I expected it to render the application faster in Gentoo since I'm using Fluxbox, but it's kinda sluggish everytime I switched between one virtual desktop to another that contained the OO3. It refreshed the page for a split second before displaying the entire application. The problem got worse when I had multiple plot in Calc. I could also see the delay while jumping from one menu to another menu.

When I ran it on Vista, the result is the opposite; it's acting normally.

It's a nice improvement in term of eye-candy, but the performance is lacking, especially while running the program in Gentoo.

Has anyone else noticed that some of the higher maths functions don't work in Calc, i.e. POWER, MOD? SIN and COS work.
Edit
Ahh, realised, they seem to have changed from ; to , to break arguments. Good thing really.

I updated to OOo 3.0.0 (source build) today. It runs on par with any *.0.0 release as far as I can tell. I've seen it crash some and I can point out 5 trivial bugs already. But overall it's very decent and worth your compiling time. I was expecting a lot worse. I only expect an extremely stable product when we reach 3.1.1 though. If thats what you want then you should stick to the 2.4 release.
