There is OpenOffice 3.0 Final

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

OpenOffice.org 3.0 Final is out there (in mirrors) for about 2 days. How much time it will take to get OpenOffice.org 3 Final to Portage?

I think it will be in the portage tree as soon as it is officially released.

congratulation to the devs for quickness of the release! :D
to bad for me that my university's proxy forbid me to sync portage... the day will appear very looooong until I can go back home ;)

Wow!!! Openoffice-bin-3.0.0
I only see [M]~3.0.0_rc4 (and it's been there for some time).

And I just synced ... :?
.... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth
doing as simply messing about with Linux ...
(apologies to Kenneth Graeme)

=app-office/openoffice-bin-3.0.0 should be available for anyone who synces approx. 0.5 hour later. This is the time it takes to sync all Gentoo Portage servers.
By the way, maybe you are looking not for openoffice-bin, but for openoffice sources?

I meant (bit of a joke really) that in gentoo, the proper
way to install is to build from sources ... (and anyway,
openoffice built from source integrates with the desktop
way better than the binary ...)

doing as simply messing about with Linux ...

built openoffice can use kde (I use kde but same for gnome
I think) dialogs, menu appearance, color scheme, widget
appearance and etc. Plus it starts a little faster ...

Sorry to say that, but that's bullshit.
The same you have in *-bin and about the speed - please. Unless you benchmarked it with some tool, don't say things like that. Besides, 0.1s faster/slower - does it mean anything?

My own experience is, it is a bit faster and it look better, even more the fonts. So I will stick with the source not -bin.

Edit: I am using the sources.

For me it is a lot faster, not from source (I only did it once, I don't think I want to do this again..) but 64bit ooo does start faster, feel faster, and I think it is faster. But sadly I always have to hunt down 64bit bin version. They didn't officialy supported this, don't know about 3.0...
And about look and feel, it is a lot better when you compile it but I am satisfied with just export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=Gnome
I guess this works for KDE too.

Edit: I just checked ebuild
SRC_URI="x86? ( mirror://openoffice/stable/${PV}/OOo_${PV}_LinuxIntel_install_en-US.tar.gz )
amd64? ( mirror://openoffice/stable/${PV}/OOo_${PV}_LinuxX86-64_install_en-US.tar.gz )"
Great!

I just found this Torrent-link: http://borft.student.utwente.nl/%7Emike/oo/index2.html , but I'll wait for the ebuild too :)

How can the bin-versie be in Portage while the source version isn't yet? So far I was pretty happy with the version compiled from source, so I'll just be patient :)

Yep I can confirm that, the 64 Bit version built from source does work a lot better for me.

Does that work?
