Gentoo-portage had an older tree snapshot when I looked last time. Is it known if KDE 4.1.2 will be in testing tree when 4.1.2 really comes?

If it means how I understand it (the ebuilds are there, but not yet testing), then that's a great and very Gentoo way of doing the release.

Just looked in distfiles in one of the Dutch mirrors:
No kde-4.1.x whatsoever.
Guess we'll have to wait a little longer.
Gerard.
To install Gentoo I use sysrescuecd.Based on Gentoo, has firefox to browse Gentoo docs and mc to browse (and edit) files.
The same disk can be used for 32 and 64 bit installs.
You can follow the Handbook verbatim.

gentoo-portage.com reports that kde 4.1.2 is in the tree, and is hardmasked (at least, for kdelibs). Can anyone verify? I don't have access to my gentoo system right now.

I synced 5 hours ago or so and have some though not all kde-4.1.2 packages. kdelibs are missing, but kde-meta is included for example.

maverick256:
Ebuilds are in the main tree. The only thing missing are sources as KDE devs decided to postpone 4.1.2 release by one day (from 1st to 2nd October).
A one day slip (from October 1st) has been agreed due to the discovery of an ABI breakage in kdegraphics libraries.

Hehe, it's pretty funny how now we now have the ebuilds but are just waiting for the source code.

So how do we mass-unmask these packages? :\

It's even easier and safer by simply reading the updated guide at http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/k ... #doc_chap3.

That chapter is all about overlays! But if I want to use the ebuilds from the tree, why should I need it?? Just to get the keywords file for the unmasking?

Well, I guess as soon as the sources are available, 4.1.2 ebuilds will be unmasked in Portage, so you will only need to sync to enable them.

So when do you think the sources will be available?

Presumably as soon as kde.org announces it´s release. It should have been yesterday according to their schedule.

So i think it can't be long until portage will unmask the 4.1.2 ebuilds?

It seems to me that the source packages are already there: ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/4.1.2/src/ , but the announcement isn't out yet. By the way, is there a way to use those xdelta packages in Portage?

I tried, but was unsuccessful.

It seems the xdelta is against the tar file, not the tar.bz2 file.

So first, you have to unbzip2 the kdelibs-4.1.1.tar.bz2 file, apply the xdelta patch (I was successful to this point), and then re-bzip2 the product kdelibs-4.1.2.tar file.

Whenever I've used xdelta in the past, it's had checksums to insure the product was correct, and I was able to apply the xdelta patch without error.

But when I re-bzip2-ed the resulting tar file, my sha1 and sha256 sums did not match the values in the Manifest. Since there are a few tuning factors for bzip2, I guess you have to use exactly the same tuning factors to get the same checksum result.

Yes, I gave xdelta a try once and found it pretty troublesome. I was wondering whether it could be integrated in Portage, rather than used manually. Anyway, KDE 4, welcome to Portage! :)

I don't think so. There was a mention on this forum that KDE 4.x won't be unmasked till 4.2.

KDE 4.1.2 is crashing on my PC while startup:

nepomukservices[14055] trap invalid opcode ip:7fb8133aa070 sp:7fff1d092d88 error:0 in libnepomuk.so.4.1.0[7fb813339000+81000]

I had remove it because KDE 3.5 also didn't work when 4.1.2 was installed.

I synced portage today but the latest version of kde I get is 4.0.5. I know the keywords for the kde overlay but where are the unmasked keywords for kde 4.1.2 in portage?

I'm sure the keywords update will hit Portage soon. Also, KDE 3 should work when 4 is installed, but you need to manually handle (read switch) the .kde symlink in your home every time you use a different version.

I don't know about the portage version of kde, but the overlays managed the symlink to .kde automatically between .kde3.5 .kde4.1 and .kde4.2
