[Solved] Firefox 3 + Flash Player

Hello,

I've installed Firefox 3 this week-end. But I can't get my flash plug-in to work on my gentoo64 box.

I've tried both with emerging netscape-flash and trying to install manually from archive retrieved on the adobe site. For the latter I got an error message telling me the installer doesn't support 64-bits archs (sigh).

However, Flash is running well on my Firefox 2 installation, so it might be a problem of installation somewhere that prevents my Firefox 3 from finding the plugin.

I'm not much of an expext on 64-bit archs
(even thought I have machine cable of doing it, but I chose not to)
Isn't there a 32-bit library installed on 64-bit so it can be compatiable with this sort of stuff.

Another thing, isn't Firefox 2 installed as a 32-bit version, so it would work with the flash library.
Maybe Firefox 3 has a 64-bit version. Although that is unlikely, seeing how 64-bit is always the least developed. It sucks.

flash is 32 bit, you have a 64 bit firefox=wont work without wrapper(like nspluginwrapper) or using alternatives like gnash and swfdec
it ran on ff2 because probably you installed the bin package which is 32 bit compiled.

Mm, indeed. You both were right. I've completely lost from sight the 32-bit condition of firefox-bin.

I've emerged firefox 3 binary version and flash player, it works perfectly now !
