Wine won't install gecko

I'm trying to use Steam with wine on an amd64 system. I installed it using the guide at gentoo-wiki. It seemed to install fine, and it starts up fine, asking me for username and password, etc. It accepts that, but then a window pops up telling me:

"This application is trying to show an HTML page. Wine needs Gecko (Mozilla HTML engine) to be installed to show the page. Click install if you want Wine to automatically download and install Gecko."

I then click install, it shows a "Downloading" window, never makes any progress and then disappears. Steam then crashes or closes, I'm not sure which. Any help that anybody could provide would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping I'm just missing something, like some manual way to install gecko...

how about running "wine iexplore http://www.google.ca", that should also start the gecko installer.

The problem is both easy and complicated.
This is one of the messages wine prints, while it gets updated:
err:mshtml:install_from_unix_file Could not get dos file name of "/usr/bin/../lib/../share/wine/gecko/wine_gecko-0.1.0.cab"

The problem seems to be that while ebuild installs wine_gecko-0.1.0.cab, wine has to install it for every user
and it has to be in a location, that wine sees (on one of its disks).

So while it's (sort of) an ebuild bug (or at least a misunderstanding), it may not be an easy one to fix.

Is my solution to wait for an updated ebuild? It doesn't bother me if I can't fix it. (I did install the ~amd64 version, it is my own fault) I'm not much for writing ebuilds, etc, but if there is a simplier or at least documented way to fix it, I would be willing to try that. Should I submit a bug report maybe?
