How do I emerge linux 2.6.22? I tried searching with emerge and I couldn't find it. I'm installing with gentoo 2008 b2 amd64, 2.6.24 doesn't seem to want to load my wireless network card inteface (wlan0) so I'm falling back to a more stable version. I heard .22 works better for wireless. Also I was wondering what version of linux does the 2008 b2 amd64 min CD use?

you can do

Code: Select all

emerge -av =gentoo-sources-2.6.22
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ | 2GB DDR2 533MHz RAM | GCC-4.3.2 | Gentoo x86_64 | KDE 4.1.2

To get an early version of the kernel, you need to mask the higher versions.

Put this in your /etc/portage/package.mask file:

Code: Select all

>=gentoo-sources-2.6.23
This will mask all the versions above 2.6.22 allowing you to emerge the latest version of 2.6.22.

Edit:
you can do

Code:

Code: Select all

emerge -av =gentoo-sources-2.6.22
You can do this as well, but whenever you go to do an emerge --update --newuse --deep world, it will automatically try to download and install the latest version. If you mask it, then it won't look for a later version.

I tried masking it and it said that's an "invalid atom". I tried the -av command and it said there are no ebuilds to satisfy gentoo-sources-2.6.22. This is really annoying >.> I just synced so wtf is wrong with this?

In your /etc/portage/package.mask file add

Code: Select all

>=sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.23
Note the sys-kernel/.

Okay masking works but it's not giving me .22. It goes back to .19-r5... Was .22 removed or something? (Also wondering where .20 and .21 are if it's all the way back to .19)

Maybe I should try out .25...

The latest (and only) version of .22 for gentoo sources currently ( 5-26-08 ) in portage is 2.6.22-gentoo-r10. To emerge it, do the following:

1) Add the following line to your /etc/portage/package.keywords file:

Code: Select all

=sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.22-r10 ~amd64
Create said file if it doesn't already exist

2)

Code: Select all

emerge -av =sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.22-r10
EDIT: Emerge this kernel first. It will give excellent support to your wireless. Make sure everything is copacetic with the .22 kernel before you consider upgrading to .25. While wireless support is MUCH better in .25 than it has been in the previous two kernel families, it's still not on par with the .22's.

Blessed be!
