Mouse Not Working During LiveDVD Install

  • Quote

Post by Sythyss » Thu May 01, 2008 7:49 pm

When I boot from the beta2 liveDVD my USB mouse doesn't work. Is this a known bug? any way to fix this without waiting for the stable release?

Sythyss,

Welcome to Gentoo.

As this is a request for help, I have moved your post into the Installing Gentoo Technical forums.
I'm editing your post rather than responding so it still appears unanswered.

If you wish to report a problem with the DVD, please use Gentoos' bug tracker at bugs.gentoo.org

when the DVD is booting, I do notice a bunch of messages saying that it's unable to find a bunch of files in /lib/modules/2.6.24-14....one of them is 'usbhid', so I'm guessing this is the problem. Any ideas for fixing it?

"usbhid" is responsible for the usb devices and if i'm not mistaken from usb/keyboard mouses specifically ...

It seems to be a problem with the CD/DVD or CD/DVD drive .. did you check the iso with md5sum ??? Can you try the CD/DVD in another PC ??

I am also having this problem. I downloaded the LiveCD, version 2008.0-beta2-r1, and was very excited when everything seemed to work perfectly for once… because I'm using a new iMac! <Irrelevant talk about that experience here>

Long story short, although 2007 hobbles along, I need to use the 2008 version so that everything actually works. Well… the video card works; I don't know about the wireless card yet, but I'm expecting it not to work.

Here are some keywords for other people searching for help with the problem:
USB mouse keyboard Apple iMac 7.1 aluminum glass Mac Core 2

It seems like we've received little help aside from the ordinary advice.

Can anybody start piecing together a trend? Is this a problem with the LiveCD, or the drivers on it? Will an alternative installation (such as from the LiveDVD) fix this problem? Unfortunately, we can't provide much assistance on exactly what is happening, because (obviously) it's impossible to see what happened once everything is loaded.

I am going to attempt an installation through Kubuntu 8.04, and we'll see what happens. Chances are, I won't make it through that alive.
