Cannot Perform emerge --sync

  • Quote

Post by eyoung100 » Sun Mar 30, 2008 5:33 am

I'm running OSX 10.4.11 and I'm following Gentoo Prefix Bootstrap Process for Mac OS X, and I'm now ready to perform a sync with the overlay. Every time I try, I get:

Code: Select all

computer-name:~ eyoung100$ emerge --sync
>>> Starting svn update...
svn: Connection closed unexpectedly
I've read every post I can find on the prefix-overlay, and AFAIK, my make.conf SYNC entry is correct. It is:

Code: Select all

SYNC="svn+http://overlays.gentoo.org/svn/proj/alt/trunk/prefix-overlay"
I know the overlay exists because I can see it at Alt Project Overlay

My emerge --info is:

Code: Select all

My CFLAGS aren't set yet, as that comes after the sync. Why am I getting the SVN error?

I am also running OS X 10.4.11, and getting "svn: Connection closed unexpectedly". I first noticed April 8, but it's still down today (April 9).

Here is my emerge --info:

I will try again for a while, but why is overlays.gentoo.org broken?

This is a very annoying "bug". The only solution that works for the moment is to switch to https access, even though infra advocates that svn:// is better/preferable.

In your $EPREFIX/usr/portage run:

Code: Select all

svn switch --relocate svn://overlays.gentoo.org/proj/alt/trunk/prefix-overlay  https://overlays.gentoo.org/svn/proj/alt/trunk/prefix-overlay

we switched to an rsync tree now

please update your portage and remove SYNC= from your $EPREFIX/etc/make.conf
