Audacious Problems

Just emerged audacios and it's plugins and when I try to play my mp3's it shows the following error msg in console: (audacious:25629): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid (NULL) pointer instance

Hi,
i have similar problem. Due to recent upgrade of kernel, i had to unmask CVS version of alsadrivers and maybe this is the cause.
Audacious can play flawlessly for hours and then just stops (without anything else touching the sound devices). When i quit it and run from terminal, i get the following:

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:864:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
MADPlug-Message: failed to open audio output: XMMS reverse compatibility output plugin

So as alsalib is complaining, i've just tried to restart alsa (/etc/init.d/alsasound restart) and voila - it works.

But i have no clue why this happens

Just did what you said and nothing happens, still the same error.

oops, then it might have been only a coincidence in my case. what surprises me a bit is that it happens even when there is no flash in firefox and there is no other app trying to use sound devices. audacious just stops playing between tracks without saying anything.

jemrpo, compile audacious-plugins with either alsa or oss USE flags. Also check the other USE flags if you could need some. Good luck!
