Previews of new Bluecurve

Post by Skip.za » Thu Aug 21, 2003 6:04 pm

Hi all,

Being a big fan of Redhat's Bluecurve themes for GNOME I thought I'd share some screeniess that were posted a short while ago of the new version. You can find them at:
https://listman.redhat.com/archives/rhl ... 00117.html

Nothing major changed, just a few small changes but it looks really nice!

There are several differences, the window frame decoration is different and availbale in different colors, the icon set were improved, now they are oprimized pixel per pixel for the different resolution, instead of the blurred one of the old themes...

About the widget I don't know, it seems there are not so big differences. The only big difference i can see is that all seems more flat and clean, i.e. the menu bar is now completely merged in the window frame.

mmhhh...

In GNOME it's perfect, but in kde... has huge problems...
I think it is a matter of paths.
maybe did I something wrong...
And in gnome the icons are huge!

Anyone got this version working?

I will make further investigations... :D

Code: Select all

cd /usr/local/portage/x11-themes/redhat-artwork
ebuild redhat-artwork-0.80.ebuild digest
GLIS your way to gentoo...

oops!
maybe this was the problem...
I got the same problem with the digest, so I removed the downloaded rpm and replaced it with the one I posted at the beginning of this topic.
The emerge worked, but this could be the reason of the problems with kde!
Now I reemerge it with the correct rpm and will regenerate the digest!

No...
This was not the problem, even with the correct RPM, it gives the same problems, it seems that the kwin theme and the widget styles are the same of the old fashion, and it simply adds (to the 0.73 version) some icon problems... (only in kde)

in GNOME it works perfectly, but I liked it because of the desktop unification, I hate to have in my Gnome desktop differernt looking kde apps !

It looks lovely, for GNOME / GTK apps.

That said, it doesn't appear like KDE has changed, whatsoever.

Running KDE (from CVS) it doesn't even use the icons!

Kde changed... the icons are worse now!
The icons are the normal one but when you hover they change in damaged blucurve icons...

Serously now, how can I resize my gnome menu icons?

For the huge icons the
gtk-icon-sizes = "panel-menu=36,36"
has to be changed to 24,24 in file
/usr/share/themes/Bluecurve/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

It is simply beautifoul now!
Can't wait till the KDE part is done too! :D

I think the first screenshot was the most useful... I've disabled automatic image resizing in Firebird!

These make me want to switch to Bluecurve window decorations... I currently use the 1-pixel thick Metabox theme.

In gnome there is a little difference too with the posted screenshots.

The icon buttons in the title bar are not so good centered, they are a little top-left biased.

bye

If I am not mistaken, new Bluecurve icon theme is missing some icons. Or at least they made a mistake in the name convention.

I used in my application "Goto-first" and "Goto-last" from the stock items. But the only new icon provide are "Go-first" and "Go-last"... so it screw up my interface.

Any way to get that reported to Redhat ? or am i wrong ?

It looks great! I'm using it right now, but I'm using it with the gorilla icons. I don't like the bluecurve icons :)

Silverter : Not sure, but unless you are using your /home directory as desktop, the way the desktop icons are handle is different than in regular folder. So if emblems work somewhere else, the problem is not with the theme.

Look into your ~/.gnome-desktop/, the *.desktop are the entry to create icons on your desktop.

PS: you can't edit them from Nautilus. Use command line.

The thing is, without ajusting anything on my .desktop files, I get the emblems working with industrial theme. When I switch to Bluecurve the emblems do not display.

Im my ~/Desktop directory I have no .desktop files, but symlinks to directories I often use, like Documents, Movies and Music. If I was to create a .desktop files instead of a symlink to the directory, could someone provide me with an example .desktop file I can start with. Does this garantie that my emblems will work?

tnx and regards,
