Logitech QuickCam Fusion [solved]

  • Quote

Post by rahulthewall » Tue Jan 15, 2008 1:58 pm

I have a logitech quickcam fusion, and when on Ubuntu, I was using the BErliOS project for the drivers for my webcam. NOw, when I followed the same procedure and compiled the drivers on Gentoo my webcam does not work. Any one who can help me there, I would be grateful.

This is the procedure that I followed to compile the drivers:

Went to the BerliOS homepage, then to "Browse SVN with HTTP.". Then to "linux-uvc" and then on "trunk." Downloaded all the files in a folder called UVC.

Then CD UVC

make

make install (as root)

But the command dmesg does not give something like UVC class video driver - as it should. :(

Help!

OK, that did not help me. But I believe that I need to be more detailed. For what I found was that I had built video for linux as a module in my kernel. Now when I did
modproble videodev and then did dmesg I got the following output:

Linux video capture interface: v2.00

But when I go to gstreamer-properties and from there go to video input device or audio input device I see no indication of the fact that my webcam is connected or detected by the system. Is there any special option that I forgot to include in the kernel configuration or is there some other issue that needs to be addressed.

Cheers
Rahul

Are the device blocks being created?

Code: Select all

/dev/video0
/dev/v4l/video0
If you do an "lsusb" do you see your camera listed?

Code: Select all

$ lsusb
Bus 003 Device 017: ID 045e:00f7 Microsoft Corp.
Bus 003 Device 016: ID 046d:092e Logitech, Inc.
(I have two connected)

No, /dev/video0 is not being created and neither is /dev/v4l/video0 there. (Though I think in my case that would be /dev/v4l2video0 as my camera uses v4l2 or at least it did so in Ubuntu, but then again no reason for that to change).
lsusb recognizes three logitrech devices and I think that should be my usb hub, keyboard+mouse and my gamepad.
So, my camera is not being recognized.

OK, on restarting both the devices /dev/video0 and /dev/v4l/video0 were there. However, when I go to gstreamer-properties and then select the video output as my webcamera it tells me that it could not get enough buffers from device /dev/video0.

ANy solution to this??

I don't use gstreamer, have you tried it with something simple like media-video/gqcam?

Code: Select all

rahul@wall ~ $ gqcam

Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to load module "libgnomebreakpad.so": libgnomebreakpad.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/dev/video: No such file or directory

So gqcam does seem to have some problems.

OK, just noticed that my webcam (video only) works in ekiga. Now, what I would really love would be that my webcam works in skype (the new skype has video support) and that I am able to use the microphone that my webcam has. And to get the microphone working is a really high priority because I really use skype a lot to chat to people. Please help.

Cheers
Rahul

OK, I got the microphone in my webcam working. (I did not compile the support for video devices in alsa and that was the problem. ) And that means I can make audio calls with skype. which is also good. But I still have problems with the video which works perfectly in ekiga but does not work in skype.
When I go to gstreamer-properties and try to make it work, it gives me the following error message :

Could not get enough buffers from device : /dev/video0.

If anyone knows what this error means, please help me.

Cheers
Rahul

Webcam Problem- Please Help!

Post by rahulthewall » Tue Feb 26, 2008 10:20 am

If I try to test my webcam under gstreamer-properties it gives me the following error:

Video from Linux 2 (v4l2): Could not get enough buffers from device /dev/video0

In skype, if I try to test the video, it reads that the webcam is there but displays nothing - just a black screen.

I have a logitech quick cam fusion, and btw, it worked in Ubuntu.

Using the UVC drivers.
