no /dev/input nor /dev/usbmouse

Hi,

I am trying to get my usb mouse to work on a laptop and I've tried to search for solutoins on the forum first. However, I still can't get it to work.

My problem is that I don't even have /dev/input directory or a /dev/usbmouse file. There is only /dev/mouse.

I enabled devfs and auto mount at boot.

I compiled mousedev, event interface support, preliminary USB device filessstem, UHCI, hid and HID input layer support into kernel.

What did I do wrong?? I've tried so many times (re-compile kernel again and again). Please help. Thank you.
