Dell Precision m65

I was wondering if anyone here has had anyluck w/their Dell Precision m65 and Gentoo. The liveCD boots fine, but I am unsure as to what options to enable in my kernel. It panics everytime and says that there's not a valid root parameter.

I have found these somewhat helpful:
http://pelican.rsvs.ulaval.ca/mediawiki ... n_English)
http://saus.flipp.net/M65.html

The m70 has similar hardware, but not the same. And the m65 article isn't very informative at all.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here's the exact error

Code: Select all

Using IPI Shortcut mode
VFS: Cannot open root device "803" or unknown-block(8,3)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(8,3)
Here's my the boot section from my lilo.conf

Code: Select all

boot = /dev/sda
map = /boot/.map
default=Windows
...
image = /boot/bzImage
    root = /dev/sda3
    label = Gentoo
    read-only
...
other = /dev/sda2
    label = Windows

Hi just wondering if you still have this problem ?

I am running an M90 with gentoo, i assume it's probably the missing sata support in your kernel but i am not 100% sure.

Code: Select all

CONFIG_SCSI_SATA=y
If this is not the case can you post output of

Code: Select all

Your drive gets renamed /dev/hda after boot, instead of /dev/sda as with liveCD. Why I have no idea.
