libao-pulse is blocking libao

I previously had pulse audio installed, but during my last emerge -uDN world it conflicted with libao. I removed it and was going to try and re-emerge libao-pulse later, but I sitll have this problem. I see libao is a req for libao-pulse but I dont' see any docs indicating that this new version breaks libao-pulse. Any chance of getting this fixed?

Think I got my answer:

As of 0.8.8-1 libao contains a pulseaudio plugin, previously available
separately. This causes errors if you already have libao-pulse:

is it still necessary to do
