emerge --depclean problems

Having problems with the Gentoo Handbook? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

emerge --depclean problems

emerge depclean is able tu unmerge the gnu coreutils (like dir, rm etc..) After unmerging this, emerge can never be called!

I've done an emerge portage.
and then an emerge --depclean.

I did not believe that emerge found the core utils not necessary..
So i watched what happened. Indeed emerge declean removed them...

In my useflags I have clear mozilla support!
an emerge --depclean listed Mozilla as unecessary (it was installed because of a KDE-addons depency). As I read the documentation depclean should read the useflags! Why had this happened...

Also when emerging lyx explicitely (well, no Package depends on that editor...), an emerge depclean showed lyx. Why that? At the end, an emerge -u lyx removed this...

have I misunderstood the documentation or what is getting on there?

The point why I'am so interested in depclean is that I want to know which files portage downloads, creates or saves I can delete, especially tarballs, packages or sources so that I've more disk space...

It's always nice to do emerge -p --depclean before doing the actual --depclean. In most cases it will mess up your system in one way or another and it's said so in the man pages, IIRC.
warning: `class GroveImpl' only defines a private destructor and has no friends.

yes, but when emerge --depclean doesn't list a package emerged with

Code: Select all

emerge -u package
and it lists packages with

Code: Select all

emerge -k package
it loses it's sense.
The routines of emerge --depclean should therefore be updated. Also, it would be nice when emerge could clean the temp folder where the compiled stuff remains when a emerge process is killed.

Another nice feature would be, that emerge could estimate the duration of the compile process based on the line/per second ratio of gcc typical for the processor speed and the code lines in the package.
