Accessing window partitions

(i did search the forums...)
I've spent this entire day installing Gentoo, and it is GREAT!!!!
quick question ... I can't seem to access my fstab-mounted fat partition unless I'm root, otherwise it says Permission Denied. The permissions for /mnt/wind (fat partition) are 744, but I can't seem to change that to, say, 777. Here is my fstab entry for vfat, I copied the entry for / from the installation guide:

dev/hda6               /mnt/wind       vfat            noatime                 0 1

i'm sure it's something little...thanks for the help!

Have you read Mounting MS Windows partitions FAQ? It covers it pretty extensively.
