What's so difficult in using the overlays?Let_Me_Be wrote:Who cares when it's not going to appear in portage: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-639443.html
You are wrong.Edward Nigma wrote:I think there are a lot of rumors!Let_Me_Be wrote:Who cares when it's not going to appear in portage: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-639443.html
Nobody from the Gentoo project confirmed that.
Or am i wrong?

Two posts by developers in that thread. The first (the only one you knew about) argues why it shouldn't be put in portage; it reads like a developer expressing his opinion in the forum rather than an announcement.Let_Me_Be wrote:OMG, i already posted the topic. A dev clearly says that the KDE 4.0 is not goint to appear in portage.

Code: Select all
layman -a kdeAs far as I can tell, the message was that KDE 4.0.0 may not appear in portage, not that KDE4 wouldn't. That doesn't include KDE 4.0.1 or higher. At the moment, KDE4 is by no means complete, and it probably never will be complete, since the FOSS approach to software development is one of continual, incremental improvement. Thus, KDE 4.0.0 represents the first step in bringing KDE4 to the desktop and the 4.x.x versions will represent the improvements made based on the redeveloped KDE libraries. As such, some of the official KDE4 releases may be omitted in portage, in the same way many previous KDE 3.x.x releases have never been marked 'stable'. At some point, however, I'm sure we'll all be pleased to discover a KDE 4.x.x release in the official portage tree - I will anyhow. Just think back and compare KDE 3.5.7 to 3.4.x or 3.0.0 and you will see what I mean.Let_Me_Be wrote:Who cares when it's not going to appear in portage: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-639443.html

that's what i intend to do as soon i can get some kde4 base ebuilds that compile fine. i've stayed away from the kde4 overlay but now i could think of getting to try it.StifflerStealth wrote:beso_1717: Qt3 is still needed for the apps that have not yet been ported. Or, you can hack the ebuild so that the app compiles against Qt4 with Qt3Support enabled. I have a thread about this here: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-579291.html
Good luck.
