XFCE and compositing

  • Quote

Post by Millerc » Tue Jan 01, 2008 7:32 pm

I've been trying to get XFCE to work smoothly with compositing on a lenovo T60p. My T60p has the ati card in it so I'm using the fglrx drivers. Whenever I open firefox and go to a large web page the text seems to overlap on some lines and it looks very buggy. It looks fine whenever I turn the compositor off.

Thank you.

I have seen that bug before, and I believe it has to do with Xorg, Freetype and Mesa, not XFCE's compositor. FYI, XFCE's compositor works even without graphics card support since it can render using the CPU.

Make sure your actually using it in DRI mode:

glxinfo | grep dri

I use the unstable ~x86 branch, and that problem disappeared a long time ago with an update of my system. What are your Xorg and Freetype versions?

I tried checking to see if I was using DRI, but nothing came out after I typed that command in. To check my xorg version i typed X -version and it told me i was running version 1.3. I'm not sure how to check my freetype version. I'd appreciate it if you could redirect me to how I can enable dri.

I believe I compiled my kernel for DRI support. I thought that was all I needed to do to enable DRI.

I need 3d as well.

Thank you.
