How do I connect internet via serial port to Psion?

I'm running Gentoo ~x86_64 with a broadband connection and wish to connect my Psion series5 via the Gentoo machine's serial port to share it. How do I go about setting up my system to do this, I don't know where to even start!
I've got the software sorted on the Psion ok, it's just getting the Gentoo machine to share the network via serial port that I'm struggling with.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Thanks for the reply but I'm trying to connect with the EPOC software and don't have Linux on the Psion.
So far I've created a file with the Gentoo host called

/etc/ppp/options.ttyS0

with the following contents

silent
local
crtscts
115200
lock
192.168.0.3:192.168.0.9
asyncmap 0
persist

If I do pppd /dev/ttyS0 I get no errors so I assume it's correct but the Psion just reports Comms line failed when I try to connect. The cable is ok because I can connect via the same serial port as a vt100 terminal.
Any suggestions?
