Evolution 1.4.4 errors on loading

Post by bud1979 » Tue Aug 12, 2003 10:08 pm

After the emerge i get this for an error. Anyone know what this is? I have krb4 and mit-krb5 built. This used to be the issue.

Cannot activate component OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_ExchangeStorage_ShellComponent :
The error from the activation system is:
Child process did not give an error message, unknown failure occurred

I have tried to rebuild evolution and gal with no luck. Any ideas. Thanks

have you tried to kill all oafd and gnome daemons before starting it?

Maybe you could try to reboot and start with a clean environment (no processes running since you emerged the new version). I've seen some problems when evolution is updated but some of the gnome daemons are kept alive

Hopefully, it will be worth your bump :)

yep i tried to reboot and still the same issue. I have tried to re-emerge libgal and evolution with no sucess. Anyone else have this issue? Or could it be my connector is the 1.4.0 and not 1.4.4 or whatever the newest release is?

Thanks

Found this posted by 'akb'

i had to kill the "bonobo-activati..." process and evolution started without any problems

This solved my problem... I did remerge Evolution prior to this as well without success.... :D

well i tried this and it still did not help. My errors are not with the calender and things like that but the Exchange component. I have tried a rebuild and i tried running as root. Still no luck.

The solution how to fix evolution 1.4.4 startup

  • Quote

Post by Polluxxx » Fri Aug 22, 2003 7:15 pm

Hi there,

I found the solution of not correct startup of evolution.
This problem only occures if you installed the ximian-connector.

The problem is that the dependencies needed by the ximian-connector are not ok, that means the binary does not find the libraries it needs.

You can check that by executing:

Code: Select all

#
ldd /usr/libexec/evolution/1.4/evolution-exchange-storage

If you find something like "libgal-2.0.so.5 not found" or similar, that is the problem, a brocken dependency.

Find my explanation on how to fix this here:

i hope that helps,

I made a little script which fixes the issue for me:

Code: Select all

evolution
evolution --force-shutdown
Put that into a script and make it exectuable (chmod 755).
