Xcalib doesn't work

Hello,

xcalib doesn't work for me. I've got a profile for my external DELL monitor in ICC-format here but when I call xcalib -s 0 DELL-...icc nothing happens. I've also tried to use some other profiles in case that I just don't notice the difference, but really nothing happens. Is there any X.org module needed to get that lil tool working?

xcalib uses the same XVidModeExtension that xgamma uses, and no extra modules are needed. Certain drivers (such as vesa) don't support calibration though. Does xgamma work for you? Have you tried any of the test profiles supplied with xcalib? Those profiles work for me (I'm using intel driver).

Hello Wormo,

sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm using the fglrx-ati drivers - and no, xgamma doesn't work for me neither - no matter what value, nothing changes.

According to the xcalib README, fglrx is different from all the other drivers. You'll have to try a special target which is not currently supported in the ebuild (if this works for you, could see if the ebuild maintainer is amenable to adding an fglrx useflag...)

From the README,

For ATI's proprietary FGLRX driver for X11, a special version can be
built. Issue the command

$ make fglrx_xcalib

Thanks for the input, I've already tried to use the fglrx-binary of xcalib from it's homepage (downloaded only the binary..) but this also didn't work for me.

You could try building the special fglrx version yourself... if that doesn't work guess you're out of luck until there is a better ATI driver available
