So question is, what do I need to do to get that fixed?
Re-emerge Wine with opengl USE-flag would be my guess.
Ok I'm fairly new to Gentoo, I'm ok with basic emerging, stumped on use flags, hook me up with a link to any article explaining USE flags please.

USE flags

Just open /etc/make.conf. There's line USE="something". Just add opengl to it and re-emerge wine. If that line doesn't exist, just add USE="opengl" anywhere in the file.

That didn't work so I'm back to deciphering this issue, for the record, I could play WoW on this same PC with various *BUNTU installs so it's not hardware related :)

To make sure 3d acceleration is working and properly configured, execute the following commands and post their output here.

glxinfo | grep direct
glxinfo | grep vendor

I am having the same problem since upgrading to 0.9.50
The file mentioned above opengl32.dll.so should be in /usr/lib32/wine, according to an "locate opengl32.dll.so" using a slighty outdated database. opengl-useflag is and has always been checked.

Try running revdep-rebuild and make sure there aren't any outdated packages. I had this same problem because I missed a couple broken binaries which resulted in WINE not building quite correctly.

eselect opengl set nvidia was needed for me to get my opengl working again. Somehow when I updated the nvidia drivers it must have screwed up some symlinks, everything worked fine with the wine I had installed, but new wine installs would build without opengl.

OK, my wife is trying to co-op me into the Horde.

Man, the darn DVD from the battlechest didn;t have an install.exe type program I could find. Must be some kind of hidden file. I rebooted into XP and even then I couldn't find an executable. I did the install by opening and closing the dvd drive. That started the install. Anyone know if there is a workaround for this in case someone else is reading ?

Reboot back to Gentoo. Wine started fine, and got me through the patch downloads. When I try to start now, however, the system hard freezes, and I have to cold boot to get back in. Unfortunately, since it freezes with a black screeen, I can't see any error messages.

Any suggestions ?

The best way to get WoW working is to do ALL the patching and installing in windows then use wine just to run the game itself. Patching in wine, unless you have no other choice, is a bad idea.

That sounds very sensibile, but too late, I allready did the patching in linux. It seems to have worked for me. WoW ran in XP, and it ran fine. Wonder what the trouble is in linux

Patching in wine has worked fine since beta.

Since yesterday (update to wine-0.9.50, emul-linux-x86-compat-20071125-r1 and emul-linux-x86-gtklibs-20071210) I'm getting

Code: Select all

err:module:import_dll Library OPENGL32.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\World of Warcraft\\WoW.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program Files\\World of Warcraft\\WoW.exe" failed, status c0000135
I reverted those 3 packages, but still geht that error. Ideas? locate -i OPENGL32.dll doesn't find anything.

I had this problem myself a little while back. Try running revdep-rebuild, then reemerge WINE. I had some broken packages I missed and the only side effect I had was that WINE was building without OpenGL support without telling me~

Thanks, but the solution was even simpler:
sudo eselect opengl set xorg-x11
sudo emerge wine
sudo eselect opengl set nvidia

Just a status report.
The game is now playable (again? :P) running my earlier mentioned XP2800/6600gt/1500 MB ram I average at about 30 fps. Haven't tried it on any heavier TBC content though.
A couple of months ago The Lurker Below fight was pure hell, and I decided to use my laptop with XP on instead for that fight xD Won't be able to try it now though, as I've quit raiding.

Have had great success with both wine-0.9.51 and wine-0.9.49. Didn't try those in between :P

Running 2.6.22-gentoo-r9 and nvidia-drivers-100.14.19.
Is this where I write something clever?

has anyone had any luck running two clients on one computer? I switch between my brother's account and mine quite often, to trade things/use as bank char etc. Sometimes I can start up two clients flawlessly, other times it locks up/I get 1 fps in one client/1 fps in both. It's fairly random, and I haven't been able to figure out what's going on.

Can someone provide a status, how well WoW is working, before I provide myself with a Christmas-present? :D

I know from DAoC that it is mentioned as "gold" as well in the wine DB, but it never worked properly for me (ugly graphic bugs etc. in the latest version half a year ago).

You might have to do some tweaks to get better performance but it's practically flawless here.

I just discovered that there is a trial account. As soon as I am home, I'll give it a try...

//edit: works fine so far, no probs :)

Hyjal and Black Temple are pretty insane with wine. I think my record during boss fights there is ~11 fps.

Hey all. I have been running WoW in wine for coming up on two years now, and recently got a new computer. I'm running mostly-stable 64-bit Gentoo, and WoW works just fine, but doesn't appear to be applying the fullscreen glow effect. I can select or deselect the box, and can set the option manually either way in Config.wtf, but nothing changes either way, and I'm pretty sure that Zangarmarsh is not glowing.

I'm running WoW in wine-0.9.51 as maintained by Gentoo, but this does not change in Cedega. Any ideas? :)

Per Cedega's handy hardware detection, my system specs are as follows:

cpu: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
cpu_ghz: 3.01
memory: 2012
videocard_manufacturer: NVIDIA Corporation
videocard_type: GeForce 8600 GTS/PCI/SSE2
videocard_ram: 512
agp_aperture_size: 512
videocard_driver_version: 2.1.1 NVIDIA 100.14.23
soundcard: Audigy 1 [SB0090] (rev.3, serial:0x511102) at 0xac00, irq 1
soundcard_driver: ALSA Version 1.0.14
machine_bitness: 64
kernel: 2.6.23-gentoo-r3
x_version: Xorg Version 1.3.0
distro: Gentoo Base System release 1.12.10
GUI version: 6.0.2

Do you have pixel shaders enabled in winecfg? You're not going to get the glow or the death effect without it.
