Question about macros in OpenOffice

Hi All!
I have a quick question about macros in OpenOffice. If I open a file with a Microsoft Word (argh!) macro and save it in OpenOffice, will the macro be destroyed? If not, is there any way to do so?
I'm asking that because my sister works a lot with doc files and sometimes they are infected. If I could make OpenOffice automatically destroy the viruses I wouldn't have to install a antivirus to do this job.
