layman -a xeffects doesn't work / question about git

This forum covers all Gentoo-related software not officially supported by Gentoo. Ebuilds/software posted here might harm the health and stability of your system(s), and are not supported by Gentoo developers. Bugs/errors caused by ebuilds from overlays.gentoo.org are covered by this forum, too.

layman -a xeffects doesn't work / question about git

  • Quote

Post by Omega21 » Thu Mar 22, 2007 5:59 am

Hello,
The subject says it all.
I get this when running layman -a xeffects:

Code: Select all

~Avalon~ omega21 # layman -a xeffects
* Running command "/usr/bin/svn co "http://svn.gentoo-xeffects.org/xeffects/trunk/" "/usr/portage/local/layman/xeffects""...
svn: PROPFIND request failed on '/xeffects/trunk'
svn: PROPFIND of '/xeffects/trunk': 500 Internal Server Error (http://svn.gentoo-xeffects.org)
* Failed to add overlay "xeffects".
* Error was: Adding the overlay failed!
~Avalon~ omega21 #
Any thoughts? Its Layman 1.0.8
Thanks
~Ian

I can't browse the tree in my browser - Says the same thing, "500 internal server error".

Its most likely a problem with the xeffects server.

ola,

Beryl 0.2.1 Released and Beryl moves to GIT
Published March 18th, 2007 in Uncategorized. 0 Comments

“Hello there folks. Today, we have released beryl 0.2.1. There’s nothing NEW in the release. However all of the licenses have been fixed so that it can go into debian and ubuntu.

Onto more important matters though. Instead of using svn, beryl is now managed by git. The following is the new repo information

* Users: git://git.beryl-project.org/beryl/component where component is beryl-core, beryl-plugins, etc. There is no more trunk
* Developers: git+ssh://git.beryl-project.org/git/beryl/component where component is beryl-core, beryl-plugins, etc. There is no more trunk

To get what used to be trunk, use this script here: http://beryl-project.org/git-checkout.py.gz (be sure to gunzip it)

So for those of you who maintain svn builds, please update them to git.

Thank you.

- The beryl team”

As such, the ebuilds have been updated. Unfortunately, the beryl-svn-ebuilds script is no longer usable for checking updates. The only use for it until it’s updated is if you pass –force so that you can rebuild all the packages.
EDIT:

*headache* i've was to fast. :/

maybe thats the problem... i dont know.
somewhere im my head is space that needs to be filled...

I'm sorry, but what is "git" and how do I use it to get Beryl?
Thanks!

hmm. I am wondering the same thing myself fellas..... it's confusing the hell out of me... and on the blog front page, it talks about it, but doesn't really give any insight into how to use it, or change your existing svn setup...

They give a script http://beryl-project.org/git-checkout.py.gz (be sure to gunzip it)

Git is just like another SVN or CVS (http://git.or.cz/) when you download the script and emerge git you gotta use

Code: Select all

python git-checkout.py
This will checkout Beryl and all its Components into a folder named beryl. Which is what you normally would get from http://svn.gentoo-xeffects.org/xeffects/trunk I think.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to do after this.

[s]I still can't use a simple "layman -a xeffects"

Layman should be able to handle git repositories too.. (x11 overlay uses git for example)

Code: Select all

Medusa # layman -a xeffects
* Running command "/usr/bin/svn co "svn://svn.gentoo-xeffects.org/xeffects/trunk/" "/usr/portage/local/layman/xeffects""...
svn: Unknown hostname 'svn.gentoo-xeffects.org'
* Failed to add overlay "xeffects".
* Error was: Adding the overlay failed!
[/s]

The wiki doesn't work either. The complete domain seems to be gone...

Anyone willing to update the master layman file to point to the new git tree?

*edit: oops, I'm confusing the git server from the beryl project with the svn server which used to serve the ebuilds

Any problems with the domain?

Has anybody got a tarball of a recent overlay, please? It's just annoying - I'm doing a gentoo install at the moment, and I want the freetype/xft stuff... Alternatively, is there a mirror for the svn of the overlay?

Thanks!!

Down Again

  • Quote

Post by kommissar » Fri Aug 10, 2007 7:48 am

It seems that the overlay is down again. I tried to add it on 8/10/2007 at 3:48 AM EST and I got this:

Code: Select all

p4 ~ # layman -a xeffects
* Running command "/usr/bin/svn co "svn://svn.gentoo-xeffects.org/xeffects/trunk/" "/usr/portage/local/layman/xeffects""...
svn: Unknown hostname 'svn.gentoo-xeffects.org'
* Failed to add overlay "xeffects".
* Error was: Adding the overlay failed!
Anyone know what's up with the overlay?

I think the domain gentoo-xeffects or server is down. I already have the overlay loaded but tried to install screenlets and it can't download source from distfiles.gentoo-xeffects.org because of name resolution.

Same here, on Aug 10 10:46am EST, xeffects is down layman -L doesn't even list it, I really need that overlay fast as I am doing an ssh install to a PC all the way in Malaysia, and compiz-fusion is the only thing left.

Dritan

It will be back online hopefully by Monday.

Cheers.

I will remove it as soon as the site is up again.
Thanks!

Does anyone know where to get the following file:

qt-x11-free-qt-copy-20070802-3.3.8.patch.bz2

Or how to generate it from SVN? I'm trying to rebuild my system as I just upgraded to GCC 4.2. I guess I could wait till Monday.

You should probably wait or simply disable the qt-copy use flag temporarily.
